The School Psychologist works to support students through a variety of mental health and developmental issues and aids in qualifying students for additional support services. The School Psychologist is responsible for providing on-site psychological services to students under the jurisdiction of the state and district.

Underthe direction of the Director of Special Instructional Services for FCPS, thisposition will be part of the team responsible for scheduling and assessingpreschool-age children and children who attend private schools or arehomeschooled who have been referred for evaluations to determine whether or notthey require special education services. This person must have an understandingof the special education process, knowledge and experience with developmentaldisabilities, and an ability to collaborate with the child find team
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in School Psychology Eligibility for endorsement as a schoolpsychologist through the VA Department of Education (VDOE)
Thorough knowledge and experience functioning as part of a multidisciplinaryteam, skilled at conducting individual and group sessions with students,interpreting evaluative information to staff and parents, and skilled at reportwriting to include prescriptive educational recommendations.
A desire to participate in the Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment systemfor preschool-age children.
Essential Duties:
Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictivein nature. Other duties may be assigned. Participate in the Special ServicesReferral Team (SSRT) meeting process and eligibility meeting process forstudents suspected of having a disability under the IDEA. Act as a participantin the comprehensive evaluation process for transdisciplinary play-basedassessments for preschool-aged children; conduct traditional individualpsychological evaluations, observations, and interviews as needed forschool-aged children attending a private school in the FCPS zone or FrederickCounty residents being homeschooled who are suspected of having a disability.Analyze and interpret assessment data using statistical techniques, knowledgeof instruments, and understanding of disabling conditions. Manage theorganization and processing of assigned cases for special educationeligibility, including monitoring, reviewing, and liaison tasks. Completereports in a timely manner per regulatory guidelines Maintain a case managementlog and provide other information as required for management purposes. Presentin-service and educational programs to child-find staff, parents, communityagencies, and students that will expand psychological awareness of difficultiesrelated to children and adolescents. Provide teachers and parents withinformation about appropriate developmental tasks and expectancies incognitive, social, communication, physical, and self-help areas. Makeappropriate student referrals to specialist and/or community agencies. Performother duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
+ Must maintain current State licensures and/or certifications in state of assignment
+ Experience in pediatric and adolescent population is preferred
+ Master’s degree in psychology preferred
+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
+ Current CPR if applicable
+ TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
+ Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
+ Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
