Job Title: Intern, Mechanical Engineer
Reports to: Manager, Manufacturing Engineering
Department: Engineering
Work Model: Full-time, On-site
Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the design, development, verification of assigned mechanical components to include sheet-metal / machined-metal parts and assemblies, and theoretical mechanical concepts required to integrate mechanical and electrical components into one assembly.
Essential Functions
+ Maintains an extensive working knowledge of Crystal Group’s mechanical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor) for efficient conversion of technical requirements into schematic diagrams and assembly drawings.
+ Maintains an extensive understanding of metal parts machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
+ Maintains a working knowledge of packaging techniques applied to high performance electronics for use in harsh and demanding environments.
+ Maintains a working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the design field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
+ Ensures designs are producible and error free.
+ Recommends the proper procedures, processes, templates, and tools to correctly perform the task assigned.
+ Supports the System Architects in capturing, refining, and addressing customer requirements via the POTS system.
+ Provides concise and well-thought-out input on technological opportunities worthy of organization investment and will assist with establishing capital plans, project schedules, and budgets for the Engineering department.
+ Provides technical assistance for the Pilot Line build and testing of new products and systems.
+ Provides component-level review and in-depth troubleshooting support for product in Manufacturing and Technical Services as well as Sales department assistance.
+ Provides technical leadership for junior mechanical designers/engineers on the team providing mentoring, guidance, and technical reviews as needed to ensure successful completion of projects, as assigned.
+ Reviews mechanical drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Experience with 3D design, finite element analysis, and computational fluid dynamics (preferred)
+ Mainly a desk position so must be able to stand, sit and bend at various times while lifting and reviewing the computer hardware items
+ Ability to inspect products and effectively use the computer on a daily basis is needed
+ Ability to use various software programs related to engineering theory (AutoDesk Inventor, AutoCAD)
+ Must be able to demonstrate experience in multitasking to meet several simultaneous project milestones up to and including completion of several projects
+ Works well both independently and in a team environment and is willing to change priorities as needed
Required Qualification
+ Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person”)
+ Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or related field
Preferred Qualification
+ Mechanical component design or manufacturing experience
+ CAD software related work
+ Knowledge of computer equipment (PC, firewall, switch, data acquisition systems, UPS, server rack equipment, etc.)
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floor and testing environments. May require lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods during product testing.
