Job Description
As an Assistant Engineer at Olsson, you will support a variety of routine engineering tasks that enhance your technical knowledge and familiarity with industry practices, tools, and team collaboration. This entry-level role contributes to the development of purposeful, high-quality design solutions that address real-world engineering challenges, particularly in the railroad sector.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Assist with project design elements using standard techniques and established methods.
+ Perform entry-level plan production with clearly defined instructions.
+ Gain experience working within design and modeling software.
+ Support senior staff with project schedules and technical engineering calculations.
+ Contribute to limited portions of broader projects under direct supervision.
+ Gather and prepare research for technical reports.
+ Provide mentoring to student interns by answering questions and guiding routine assignments.
+ Travel and work in various terrain and weather conditions at project sites in different construction stages.
Qualifications
You bring to the team:
+ Strong communication skills
+ Ability to contribute and work well on a team
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering
+ Must possess or obtain Engineer Intern certificate (EI)
+ Strong problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
+ Survey and/or structure design background preferred
+ Experience in MicroStation, Risa 3D analysis, and Bluebeam Revu preferred
Expectations:
+ Adept in verbal and written communication
+ Solid interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
+ Ability to diligently research applicable requirements and regulations
+ Advanced mathematical and analytical abilities
+ Working knowledge (or ability to become proficient) in applicable technologies
+ Understands their role in quality management
+ Develops an understanding of how the firm operates as a consulting business and how this role contributes to its success
+ Holds a valid driver’s license and maintains a good driving history
+ Willingness to work a flexible schedule
+ Represents Olsson in a professional manner at all times
