    Job Summary

    + Under limited direction from the Senior Facilities Mechanic, the Custodian performs a variety of work assignments including but not limited to the daily cleaning, minor maintenance, moving furniture, setting up rooms, maintaining the grounds.

    Responsibilities

    + Checks and makes daily rounds of buildings and grounds to insure the proper operations of equipment and cleanliness of building. Reports all malfunctioning equipment and building deficiencies to Supervisor of Facilities immediately.

    + Performs cleaning, scrubbing, and mopping of floors, corridors, stairways, entrances, and rooms. Empties wastebaskets, replaces liners and collects / disposes of trash in dumpsters.

    + Picks up and replenishes supplies as needed for cleaning purposes and for rest rooms. Uses appropriate equipment to perform cleaning duties including but not limited to power cleaning equipment.

    + Monitors the safety and security of the building, alarm systems, and the security of the staff and clients everyday. Works constructively with all personnel in the school and outside visitors.

    + Maintains work areas, tools and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition on a daily basis. Uses the proper PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, when needed and as directed.

    + Position is physically demanding. May require work outside normal working hours to include emergency calls or shift coverage. Conditions may at times be hot, cold, and dirty or wet. There is some exposure to major hazards and considerable exposure to minor hazards consistent with this line of work. Safety mechanisms are available and their use is required. Must have good vision, hearing, be fully mobile on steps, ladders etc. Must have sufficient mobility and dexterity of either hands (or mechanical substitutes) to safely operate hand and power tools. Must be able to bend, stoop and lift approximately 50-pound objects.

    + Proper clean attire with no holes in clothing.

    + Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    + EXPERIENCE

    + Must have one year training in the custodial field.

    + Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

    + EDUCATION

    + High School diploma or GED preferred.

    + LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

    + Valid N.Y.S. Drivers License.
