Summary This position is with in the 149th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron located on Kelly AFB in San Antonio, TX. Its purpose is to provide organizational level capability to inspect, maintain, and store aircraft equipment, assigned aerospace ground equipment (AGE), and aerial delivery equipment. To inspect, repair, modify, and service aircraft systems, components, and assemblies, both on- and off-aircraft. Texas is one of 9 states with NO state income tax. Responsibilities As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (Title 32) with the Texas National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to: AIRCRAFT WORKER WG-8852-08 Performs overall maintenance, servicing, cleaning, and record keeping for all nonpowered AGE equipment. Nonpowered AGE includes equipment such as stands, ladders, hydraulic jacks, fuel bowsers, towbars, and hydraulic and oil servicing carts; to include towing vehicles and wheel movers. Accomplishes intermediate and organizational level maintenance on aircraft dual rail and aerial delivery systems to include removal, replacement, overhaul, adjustment and installation. Inventories, controls, stores, and maintains DD Form 780and alternate mission equipment for assigned aircraft. Maintains assigned vehicles, oxygen, and nitrogen carts. Accomplishes and reviews all nonpowered AGE and DD Form780 equipment to assigned equipment and personnel. May be required to assist aircraft mechanics inflightline/inspection maintenance activities. Complies with safety, fire, security and housekeeping regulations. Assures that material and equipment are properly safely stored, protected, and maintained. Prepares for, and participates in, various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, IG and UE inspections; to include mobility and command support exercises. Performs other duties as assigned. AIRCRAFT MECHANIC WG-8852-10 Performs inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections such as fuel contamination, emergency equipment, and oil sampling. Inspects and performs functional checks such as landing gear retraction and operation checks on hydraulic, electrical, pressurization, lubrication, de-icing, vacuum, induction, and exhaust systems. Installs equipment such as external tanks, tow reels, hoists, and pylons. Troubleshoots and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft, utilizing various gauges, meters, measuring devices and other related test equipment. Performs major adjustments and alignments of aircraft systems or components and assists specialists as required. Removes and replaces aircraft components such as control surfaces, engines, constant speed drive, engine mounted gear boxes, wing fuel tanks or cells, landing gear mechanisms, wheels, brakes and tires. Services oil, fluid, fuel, hydraulic, and oxygen systems. Adjusts and maintains installed equipment such as tow targets, hydraulic reels, and drive assemblies. Removes and replaces working or inoperative parts and elements. Performs operator maintenance on aircraft installed auxiliary power units. Tows, taxies, parks, and moors assigned and transient aircraft. Meets and debriefs the aircrew on the status of the aircraft. Launches and recovers assigned and transient aircraft to include those on alert status. Performs end-of-runway inspections prior to take-off. Inspects for conditions such as oil, fuel and hydraulic leaks; damaged tires; and loose panels which would make the aircraft unsafe for flight. May be required to perform user and organizational level maintenance on assigned support equipment, including inspection, repair, modification, and corrosion prevention. Inventories, controls, stores and repairs 780 equipment. Accomplishes and reviews nonpowered AGE and 780 equipment records relating to assigned equipment. Provides data for aircraft maintenance historical records, complete maintenance data collection, man-hour accounting, and other forms as required. Instructs, directs, and assigns maintenance repair tasks to drill status guard members. Observes work and ensures compliance with standard procedures and applicable technical publications. Complies with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. Ensures that material and equipment are properly stored, protected, maintained and secured. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as MEI, ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural firefighting, aircraft fire/crash/ rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Air National Guard (TXANG) and wear of the military uniform. Applicants must be a current member of the National Guard or be on Active Duty and be eligible and willing for immediate transfer to the TXANG. Area of Consideration: Nationwide. This includes: All current members of the National Guard, Reserves, or Active Duty and eligible for immediate transfer into the Texas Army National Guard. All currently employed full-time permanent, indefinite and temporary personnel of the Texas Air National Guard. Specialized Experience Required: To qualify at the WG-08 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting experience or training in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components, and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies, and components, e.g., such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing, and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. To qualify at the WG-10 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting xperience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
