    Description

    The Geriatric Mental Health Division of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry is inviting applications for a part-time (0.50 FTE) position in the Department of Psychiatry in the Memory Care Program for a physician with expertise in Geriatric Psychiatry, Medicine or Neurology, working approximately 20 hours a week.

     

    There will be additional opportunities for support of teaching and scholarship as you work with patients with cognitive impairments and their care partner. This position includes both a faculty position at the University of Rochester with a faculty rank of Senior Instructor or higher based on experience and a medical staff appointment at Strong Memorial Hospital.

     

    As a teaching hospital, we are looking to recruit a candidate with outstanding clinical and supervisory skills to join our Geriatric Mental Health Division as a member of our multidisciplinary team of clinicians. The Memory Care Program is part of the University of Rochester Medical Center’s clinical enterprise, which extends throughout the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions.

     

    The Memory Care Program consists of a team of neurologists, geriatric psychiatrists, a geriatrician, a neuropsychologist, family and marriage therapists, nurses, and social workers. Together these clinicians help patients, and their families manage and cope with the many dimensions of the disease and phases of treatment, beginning with an early and accurate diagnosis. The team meets regularly, provides diagnostic and longitudinal follow-up and supportive care, and offers access to clinical trials and other cutting-edge treatments as appropriate.

     

    Clinical responsibilities include initial assessments and follow up for this patient population through adherence to national guidelines for diagnosis and treatment and a multidisciplinary team paradigm. The physician will also be responsible for managing and supervising medical students, residents, and fellows.

     

    The physician will be based at our outpatient clinic site in the city of Rochester.

     

    There are also opportunities for research involving dementia, depression, and aging- related studies at the Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease (CEAD).

    Qualifications

    Candidates must meet the following requirements:

    Board certified/ board eligible in an appropriate medical specialty – Psychiatry/Geriatric Psychiatry, Medicine/Geriatric Medicine, Neurology/Neuro-psychiatry

     

    Clinical experience in dementia care.

     

    Active NYS medical license prior to start

     

    Active and unrestricted DEA certification
