    The Jameel Arts and Health Lab (the Lab), housed in the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, seeks a Part-Time Researcher for a project assessing the behavior and neural impact of a dance intervention for Parkinson’s Disease.

     

    The Part-Time Researcher will work under the direction of Dr. Nisha Sajnani (https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/people/nisha-sajnani) , Founding Co-Director of the Lab and Dr. Constantina Theofanopoulou (https://www.constantinatheofanopoulou.com/) , Visiting Scholar at the Lab and Herbert and Nell Singer Research Assistant Professor (The Rockefeller University). The part-time researcher will serve as the primary coordinator for all aspects of the study, facilitating collaboration between the research and artistic teams and advancing progress across all phases of the project. This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week and requires in-person presence in New York City. The position will not have supervisory responsibilities.

    Key responsibilities include:

    + Coordinate the research and artistic teams in the design, refinement, and implementation of the dance-based intervention, maintaining fidelity to both scientific and artistic objectives.

    + Lead participant recruitment efforts, including managing outreach materials, liaising with partner organizations, screening interested individuals, and complying with IRB-approved protocols.

    + Schedule all study activities, including pre- and post-intervention behavioral assessments, fMRI scanning sessions, and intervention/control sessions, in collaboration with research staff, dance instructors, musicians, and imaging center personnel.

    + Manage the process of providing participant incentives, ensuring timely and accurate disbursement in accordance with institutional policies.

    + Oversee and streamline data collection for behavioral (motor, speech, and psychosocial) and neural (fMRI) tasks, applying standardized administration procedures to maintain high data quality.

    + Lead data analysis for behavioral and neuroimaging datasets.

    + Draft manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and contribute to grant proposals as needed.

    + Prepare presentations, figures, and reports to communicate study progress and findings to both specialized scientific audiences and the general public.

     

    The Part-Time Researcher will have opportunities to contribute to conference presentations and attend a rich array of events available through the Lab and through NYU more broadly.

     

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is $35-$38.50 per hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

    Qualifications include:

    + Ph.D. in neuroscience, biology, psychology, creative arts therapies, arts in health, occupational therapy, dance education, music education, or a related field.

    + Minimum of one year of experience working on research teams, preferably in neuroscience, psychology, or arts and health, including the creative arts therapies.

    + Preferred: demonstrated expertise in data analysis and statistics (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB, SPSS), preferably with experience in neuroimaging (e.g., fMRI) and motor and/or speech behavioral data.

    + Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a demonstrated capacity for problem-solving.

    + Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to tailor information for both specialized and general audiences.

    + Proficiency in written and spoken English; additional language skills welcomed.

    + A bility to work independently as well as collaboratively on complex, multi-phase tasks.

    + Experience with knowledge translation, including preparing research findings for dissemination to academic, clinical, and public audiences.

    + Candidates must be sensitive to the needs of and possess an interest in working in a broad academic community with different viewpoints and backgrounds.
