**Summary:** Performs routine physical, chemical and microbiological testing on gelatin samples.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

+ Collects and prepares various gelatin, in process, by-products and raw material samples for testing.

+ Performs laboratory tests including microbiological, chemical and physical in accordance with written procedures.

+ Obtains finished, semi-fished and environmental samples as needed for analysis.

+ Identifies non-conforming product and reports to quality management.

+ Accurately records data via lab reports and enters test data into computer system.

+ Performs weekend and holiday rotation including routine micro and chemical/physical testing.

+ Prepares media and stock solutions required for performing tests. Maintains lab supply inventories.

+ Keeps work area, supplies, glassware and other equipment clean, organized and properly cared for.

+ Calibrates or verifies lab equipment, when appropriate.

+ Special projects and other duties as assigned.

+ Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.

+ Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; applies feedback to improve performance; monitors own work to ensure quality.

**Minimum Qualifications:** Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university

**Preferred Qualifications:** One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in a science field.

**Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:** The Rousselot plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position requires day shift work. Occasional weekend work on a rotating schedule and occasional overtime will be a requirement for this position.
