    Primary Responsibilities

    The Medical Director of Quality (MDQ) will oversee all quality improvement, patient safety and quality/safety related accreditation and regulatory compliance initiatives. The MDQ provides clinical, administrative, and strategic oversight to all staff, including medical staff, responsible for patient quality and safety.

     

    MDQ will have responsibility for overseeing the Metrics-that-Matter quality program for their site. They will be expected to know their hospital’s metrics, develop plans for improvement, engage appropriate staff in improvement activities, and share outcomes with all key stakeholders. They will partner with regional and system quality leadership to ensure that improvement activities are aligned with system strategy.

     

    Engage physicians in key quality priorities. Present relevant data at medical staff meetings, medical executive committees, department meetings. Review data with individual physicians as needed when quality imperatives require action.

     

    Ensure that the hospital incorporates and utilizes continuous improvement systems-based strategies and methods to improve all aspects of quality improvement and safety management. The MDQ will oversee data management, analysis and dissemination of safety and quality improvement data and information within their site. Responsibilities will include analysis of clinical processes, identification of potential risks of harm to patients and employees and development of strategies to maximize delivery of reliable safe, patient-centered care.

     

    Maintain awareness of Collaborative Quality initiatives (CQI), working with the regional external quality team to ensure that the hospital is achieving designated outcomes.

     

    Partner with clinical and legal risk as well as patient safety to proactively identify safety risks and implement risk reduction strategies. MDQ will have specific responsibility of engaging physicians in this work. MDQ will also have responsibility in conjunction with clinical and legal risk to make sure that appropriate disclosure occurs for patient safety events.

     

    Devote time to stay engaged in the quality and safety literature and attend quality meetings at least annually. Attend educational meetings regarding quality, safety, experience as required by the SVP Chief QSE Officer.

     

    Monitor the Joint Commission SE alerts to keep compliant with Joint Commission standards.

     

    Work in collaboration with SVP, Chief Quality Officer to implement strategic system goals for quality and safety.

     

    Actively participate in regional and system quality meetings, including attending in-person as requested.

     

    Work in conjunction with site Program Manager to lead hospital QSE committee.

     

    MDQ may be designated as the lead for a particular region-wide or system-wide area of quality, safety, or experience. This will require working on metrics and projects throughout the region/system.

     

    Partner with VPMA and MDQ for service lines to ensure robust peer review activity is being maintained.

     

    Annual Performance Review

     

    The hospital MDQ will undergo an annual performance review with the SVP, Chief Quality Officer, Corewell Health.
