Job Description
We’re looking for a Sr. Design Drafter to support the development of new store locations from site approval through construction. This role is responsible for preparing site plans, coordinating with merchandising and utility teams, managing architectural drawings, and ensuring compliance with municipal codes. You’ll work closely with consultants and internal teams to deliver accurate construction documents, manage budgets, and keep projects on schedule. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of AutoCAD experience, a background in architectural or civil engineering, and strong project management skills. Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities after Real Estate Site Approval:
+ Prepare Site Plans and coordinate with the Merchandising team on fixture layouts to ensure the plans meet the intent of the “approved” site or fixture plans prior to the Pre-Construction Review Meeting.
+ Assist the Pre-Construction Specialist in working to obtain all municipal and governing agency approvals, ensuring code compliance with all required authorities.
+ Produce all architectural required drawings, as well as assist the Pre-Construction Specialist with the management of the various consulting engineers (Structural, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.) to ensure AutoZone standards are maintained prior to submittal to the various municipal approving agencies.
+ Coordinate with various dry utility companies to ensure our electrical, telephone and natural gas services reflect the utility companies design intent.
+ Complete Design Exchange bid packages and ensure engineered construction drawings and bid documents are accurate and provided to the Construction department.
+ Provide proper specifications and documentation to the Support team for any non-standard AFI items as required.
+ Incorporate all exterior sign locations and sizes, provided by the National Sign Manager, are reflected in the construction drawings.
Primary Responsibilities after Construction Starts:
+ Ensure any drawings which have been modified, as a result of issues encountered while under construction, are issued to the Construction team as a Revision
+ Ensure all the latest drawings and documents are archived properly per AutoZone standards after the store opens.
Budgetary Responsibilities:
+ Assist Regional Preconstruction Manager in managing and controlling costs of the annual Pre-Construction budget throughout the fiscal year
+ Prepare any check requisitions for all fee payments, bonds or letters of credits as needed for each project, after approval from the Regional Pre-Construction Manager
+ Assist Regional Pre-Construction Manager in ensuring consultant budgets and scope of work is accurate and that the correct information is provided to our accounting department
Project Management Responsibilities:
+ Working with the Pre-Construction Specialist and Project Managers, effectively manage ~10 projects at any given time and coordinate schedules accordingly
Timeline Responsibilities:
+ Working with the Pre-Construction Specialist and Project Managers, be able to deliver drawings and coordinate consultants/utilities/municipal approvals in accordance with project deadlines to avoid delays in Store openings
Qualifications
+ Associates degree or equivalent experience required
+ Minimum of 3 – 5 years of AutoCAD experience
+ Completion of formal training program in Architectural Technology or Civil Engineering
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and MS Project
+ Demonstrated ability to work under pressure
+ Effective time management skills
+ Must possess critical thinking and decision-making skills
+ Strong focus on quality
+ Must be a positive, effective team player
+ Ability to manage cost to align with project budgets
+ Project management of ~10 projects at any given time
+ Ability to manage timelines and provide deliverables according to project schedules
