    The purpose of this internship is to prepare college students for entry into the business world by providing a thorough understanding of the various functions of the Zebra Technologies organization. The program is designed to provide you with a full experience so that you can fully envision a career with Zebra. You will be positioned for success with training, exposure to all parts of the business, social activities, a professional mentor relationship and development sessions to help you discover your own performance edge!

     

    Our team specializes in software and solutions for the wearable computing segment within the Enterprise Mobile Computing division. Our product portfolio encompasses wearable Android mobile computers, ring scanners with embedded operating systems, and audio accessories such as Bluetooth speakers and headsets.

    We focus on a wide range of development efforts, including:

    + Customizing and modifying the Android operating system

    + Designing and developing applications for wearable devices

    + Firmware development for ring scanners and audio accessories

    + Creating configuration applications for peripherals

    + Developing SDKs to enable seamless integration of applications with our device

    Responsibilities:

    Project Overview: Development of a Bluetooth Gateway for Ring Scanners

     

    + Build a centralized Bluetooth Gateway device to allow ring scanners to connect and communicate seamlessly

    + Enable management of multiple ring scanners through a single gateway, reducing dependency on individual host devices (e.g., tablets or smartphones)

    + Core Features of the BT Gateway:

    + Device Connectivity: Support simultaneous pairing and management of multiple ring scanners via Bluetooth (e.g., up to 10 devices depending on hardware capabilities)

    + Device Management: Implement functionality to monitor, configure, and manage ring scanners, such as battery status, firmware updates, and connection health

    + Hardware and Firmware Development:

    + Design and develop the gateway hardware with a robust Bluetooth module to handle multiple connections

    + Develop firmware to support Bluetooth profiles (SPP, BLE) for seamless communication between the gateway and ring scanners

    + Ensure compatibility with existing ring scanner firmware and embedded operating systems

    + Software Development:

    + Create a user-friendly configuration interface for administrators to set up and manage the gateway

    + Implement over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates for ring scanners and the gateway itself, ensuring devices remain up-to-date

    + This project would deliver a comprehensive solution for enterprises to manage their ring scanner fleets efficiently, reducing operational complexity while enhancing productivity

    + This role will develop the Firmware of the system

    + Develop planning, organizational and leadership skills

    + Increase technology knowledge and skills

    + Develop team-based work proficiencies

    + Develop interpersonal skills to connect with day-to-day business contacts through follow up activities

     

    THIS IS A HYBRID INTERNSHIP LOCATED IN HOLTSVILLE, NY. THE EXPECTATION IS AT LEAST 3 DAYS OF IN-OFFICE ATTENDANCE.

    Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications:

    + Current enrollment in an undergraduate/graduate degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering

    + Must have an anticipated graduation date between 2026-2027 for undergraduate students and 2026-2028 for graduate students

    + Must be authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Embedded Systems Programming:

    + Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, or Python, specifically for embedded systems development

    + Understanding of microcontrollers, Bluetooth modules, and hardware-software integration

    + Ability to work with firmware for Bluetooth communication protocols (e.g., BLE, HID, SPP)

    + Bluetooth and Wireless Communication:

    + Knowledge of Bluetooth technology, including BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Classic Bluetooth, and their relevant profiles

    + Understanding of wireless communication principles, device pairing, and multi-device connectivity

    + Familiarity with debugging Bluetooth communication issues using tools like packet sniffers (e.g., Wireshark)

    + Software Development and Debugging:

    + Experience with software development for device management applications, particularly in creating configuration tools or APIs/SDKs

    + Familiarity with version control systems like Git and debugging tools.

    + Understanding of software testing and validation processes, particularly for embedded systems and wireless devices

    + IoT and Networking Knowledge:

    + Understanding of IoT architecture and protocols, such as MQTT, HTTP, or WebSockets, for data relay between the gateway and enterprise systems

    + Familiarity with networking concepts (e.g., Wi-Fi, Ethernet) and how they integrate with Bluetooth devices in industrial environments

    + Mobile/Peripheral SDK Development:

    + Experience with developing or working on SDKs/APIs for peripheral devices, enabling integration into enterprise applications

    + Knowledge of Android/iOS app development for managing devices via mobile platforms

    + Hardware Prototyping and Testing:

    + Hands-on experience with hardware prototyping tools like Arduino or Raspberry Pi to simulate Bluetooth gateway functionality

    + Familiarity with testing hardware and firmware for performance, scalability, and compliance with industry standards

    + Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, & PowerPoint)

    + Intellectual curiosity with a strong desire to learn and grow

    + Proven leadership and excellence in professional, academic, and/or extracurricular experiences

    + Ability to collaborate as part of a team

    + Effective verbal and written communication skills

    Salary: USD 29.00 - USD 40.00 Hourly

     

    Salary offered will vary depending on your location, job-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
