BOOM! Studios, an imprint of Random House Worlds, seeks an Assistant Editor to join the Editorial team.
An Assistant Editor is responsible for helping higher-level editors complete tasks and achieve goals. They are expected to effectively support editors with a key focus on detail-oriented and administrative work while maintaining a shared goal of delivering high-quality creative content on time. This encompasses, but is not limited to, maintaining set schedules to ensure that titles ship on time, executing administrative duties quickly and accurately, enthusiasm for learning about the creative process with an emphasis on narrative and visual storytelling, working effectively with various talent and partners, identifying new talent, proofreading, critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and working effectively with other departments within the organization. Beyond simply doing the tasks, the ability to clearly, quickly and effectively communicate with people internally and externally is a must and they must be comfortable communicating on video calls, the phone, over email, chat, and other forms of communication both written and oral.
As the Assistant Editor grows into the role, their lead editor will assign additional, higher editorial functions such as reading and evaluating scripts, evaluating art, providing feedback to creators, etc., and eventually assume the role of lead editor on a project-to-project basis with the lead editor’s supervision. An Assistant Editor is expected to carry a workload of 10-15 projects in various stages of development/production.

We are looking for someone able to juggle multiple project schedules and deadlines, is eager to learn and contribute, has great written and oral communication skills, is approachable and professional in demeanor, is unafraid to ask questions and volunteer ideas, and is enthusiastic about helping creative talent make great stories.
Specific responsibilities include:
+ Collaborate with Editorial to carry out basic administrative tasks, such as submitting vouchers, requesting simple talent agreements, filling out work orders, pagination documents, etc.
+ Keep production sheets and other data up-to-date, review production schedules, and alert teammates to potential issues coming up
+ Upload content to licensors and deliver feedback to talent and/or senior editors promptly
+ Route internal forms for approvals and requested changes
+ Fill out first-pass information and/or copy on monthly Solicitation documents
+ Work closely with both the Design and Marketing departments to ensure they have all files and information needed to effectively do their work on all projects
+ Work with editors to maintain and preserve existing talent relationships through creative and effective problem-solving while ensuring clear, consistent, and prompt communication
+ Communicate both written and verbally (via phone or meetings) with creators about deadlines and feedback on their work—specifically notes on coloring and lettering
+ Deliver files to line artists, color artists, and letterers in a timely manner
+ Discuss and review scripts, art, coloring, and lettering proofs with supervising editors and/or creative talent
+ Assist with casting covers and scouting new talent for covers and interior artwork
+ Brainstorm and ideate with senior editors and writers
+ Perform other related projects or duties as assigned or required

+ Minimum of one year’s previous editorial experience
+ Superb organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
+ Exceptional attention to detail, proofreading skills, and strong follow-up skills
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and meet deadlines, take initiative, and problem-solve creatively
+ A team player with the ability to build relationships with other departments. A collaborative spirit is essential
+ Outstanding ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams)
+ Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Airtable and/or Asana a plus
The salary for this position is $56,000.** ** ** **All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
