Wastewater Treatment Technician** **(2nd Shift) – Colorado Springs, CO

Job summary:

Ensure quality water effluent meets all Local, State and Federal discharge requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and will be required to be medically qualified to wear a full faced respirator when required. The employee is occasionally exposed to loud work environments, wet and/or humid conditions, high or precarious places, outside weather conditions, vibration, and risk of electrical shock

What You Will Do:

Job Responsibilities

+ Learn, understand, and apply environmental and regulatory requirements and practices into daily standard work.

+ Monitor control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of industrial wastewater and treatment chemicals.

+ Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine load requirements.

+ Ensure quality water effluent meets all Local, State and Federal discharge requirements.

+ Responsible for plumbing, all types of piping, water, air – including sprinkler systems.

+ Ability to work from drawings, sketches, specifications, blueprints, and instructions.

+ Use all hand tools, power tools, scale, square levels, including carpentry tools, etc.

+ Start and stop pumps to control flow of industrial wastewater through treating, settling and sludge press processes.

+ Perform preventive maintenance and repair tasks in waste treatment area and facility, as needed.

+ Perform calibration of wastewater treatment equipment such as pH probes, testing equipment, etc.

+ Maintain log of operations and record meter and gauge readings, such as test results, chemical usage, etc.

+ Collect water samples and conduct various preliminary laboratory tests on wastewater.

+ Maintain inventory and report usage/needed material to laboratory and/or EH&S personnel.

+ Load and unload hazardous chemicals from truck by means of lift truck and physical handling.

+ Share responsibility for obtaining and moving chemical/materials for plating operation.

+ Provide backup assistance to the process/laboratory technician.

+ Regularly assist in various duties such as filter changes and preparation/loading of hazardous waste shipments.

+ Be responsible for shut down of wastewater treatment and assist in shutdown of plating operation.

+ Provide assistance in plating projects such as bath dilutions and tank repairs and production tasks.

+ Perform or assist outside specialist in proper cleanup of spills according to established methods.

+ Maintain work area in a neat and orderly fashion.

What You Need to Succeed:

+ Strong attention to detail

+ Ability to work with little supervision.

+ Responsible for keeping work area clean and orderly.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

+ High school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years working knowledge of chemistry and chemicals; or an associate degree in chemistry, forensic science, biology, hydrology, environmental science or hydrogeology.

+ Must have and maintain an active Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate, class ‘B’ or higher.

+ Must have or successfully complete Hazardous Communication/RCRA training within 90 days of placement.

+ Must be fitted and approved for respirator use within 30 days of placement.

Compensation:

This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

+ The expected Base Hourly Range: $19.03- $33.70. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
