    Job Description

    The System Offices is one of several system members within the Texas A&M University System representing one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a network of 12 universities, a comprehensive health science center, eight state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus.     Job Description Summary:

    This position provides legal representation of and support to administrators, faculty and staff of The Texas A&M University System on behalf of the Health and Business Affairs section.

     

    Responsibilities:- Provides legal advice and counsel to System administrator, faculty and staff in the area of governance. This includes, but is not limited to, reviewing and drafting all types of commercial and business agreements for products and services, from both an acquisition and provider perspective, including, but not limited to, software/IT agreements, software as a service agreements, benefits administration agreements, services agreements, affiliation agreements, memorandums of understanding, data use/transfer agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.

     

    - Interprets federal and state laws and regulations and System policies, regulations and rules. - Drafts and advises on policies and procedures, proposed legislation, and internal legal memorandums and opinions. - Participates in Office of General Counsel matters, including practice area assignments, workshops, briefing papers, presentations and trainings, special initiatives, etc.

     

    - Other duties as assigned.

     

    Education and Experience:- B.A./ B.S. plus an earned (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.- Five years of related legal experience.

     

    Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:- Member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas in good standing or will seek a Texas law license through reciprocity within 12 months of hire date.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage a broad range of complex legal issues.- Availability to travel across state to System locations.

     

    - Travel required.

     

    - Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    - Higher Education and/or state agency experience.
