    The Senior Vice President of Enterprise Multi-Disciplinary Center Operations and Physician Director of the Heart Center provides executive leadership for the Heart Center, a key multi-disciplinary Center of Excellence at Boston Children’s Hospital. This role oversees operational, strategic, and clinical management of the Heart Center, including cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, cardiac intensive care (CICU), and outpatient services.

     

    The SVP chairs the Heart Center Executive Committee and reports to the system COO and President. The role requires fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture, setting clear expectations, measuring results, and aligning operations with enterprise-wide strategic goals. Over time, the SVP will also support the operations and growth of additional enterprise multi-disciplinary centers, ensuring operational excellence, financial sustainability, and strategic development.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Heart Center Leadership & Strategy

    + Provide oversight for clinical, operational, and strategic aspects of the Heart Center.

    + Develop and implement initiatives to improve clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and resource utilization.

    + Foster a culture of excellence, inclusivity, and collaboration across all Heart Center staff.

    Operational Management & Performance Oversight

    + Coordinate with department chiefs and nursing leadership to optimize OR, CICU, Cath lab, and outpatient services.

    + Ensure efficient patient flow and service delivery.

    + Establish and monitor performance metrics; maintain quality standards, regulatory compliance, and patient safety.

    Financial & Resource Management

    + Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and financial performance.

    + Identify opportunities for cost savings, revenue growth, and operational improvements.

    Clinical Outcomes & Quality Improvement

    + Collaborate with clinical leadership to enhance patient outcomes, reduce care variation, and improve satisfaction and safety.

    + Maintain partnerships across interdisciplinary teams to enhance care coordination.

    Executive Committee Leadership & Culture

    + Chair the Heart Center Executive Committee and support the Board Heart Center Oversight Committee.

    + Lead decision-making, policy development, and strategic planning.

    + Mentor leadership talent and sustain a collaborative, high-performance culture.

    Enterprise Multi-Disciplinary Centers

    + Oversee operational and strategic development of additional Centers.

    + Lead strategic growth initiatives, both organic and inorganic.

    + Ensure sustainability, growth, and clinical excellence across Centers.

    Required Qualifications:

    Education & Experience

    + MD or equivalent; board certification in Pediatrics or related specialty.

    + Proven executive leadership in cardiovascular or complex medical center operations, strategy, and clinical services.

    + Expertise in cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, and inpatient/outpatient care.

    + Experience in organic (program development) and inorganic (mergers, partnerships, affiliations) growth strategies.

    + Demonstrated success in financial management, operational oversight, and resource management.

    + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with physicians, staff, leadership, and external partners.
