Salary Grade: NC14 Salary Range: $50,633 - $88,607

The Environmental Analysis Unit is a one-stop shop for supporting development of sustainable transportation infrastructure that minimizes impacts on the human and natural environment. For more information see theEnvironmental Analysis Unit video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c53CnoBcdco) .
The Mitigation and Modeling Group (M&M Group) contributes to the planning, permitting, and streamlining of transportation projects and overall program delivery which requires daily coordination with civil, hydraulic, and structural engineers as well as other professionals and technical experts. The M&M Group is responsible for providing indirect and cumulative impact (ICI) analysis for water quality and federally protected species, developing conservation measures to minimize the impacts of indirect and cumulative effects, and developing cost effective onsite wetland, stream, and buffer mitigation opportunities for impacts resulting from transportation projects.
The M&M Group is looking for an Environmental Specialist to provide technical assistance with various work assignments performed by the Group
In this role you will,
+ support:
+ Environmental assessment applications of Unmanned Aerial Systems.
+ Wetland, stream, and buffer on-site mitigation efforts.
+ GIS mapping and geodatabase development.
+ NC Division of Mitigation Services coordination.
+ Mitigation site encroachments by NCDOT or third parties.
+ NCDOT mitigation site transfers to recipient agencies.
+ Development and implementation of Project ATLAS
+ Work independently while interacting with engineers, project managers and regulatory agencies to collect, evaluate, analyze, and tabulate data for inclusion into project environmental documents and permits.
+ Perform other tasks and assignments as required by NCDOT management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Management prefers applicants with the following:
+ Knowledge of the principles of natural environmental science as they apply to transportation planning and environmental assessments.
+ Knowledge of federal and state environmental laws and regulatory requirements - NEPA/SEPA, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act.
+ Experience with Environmental assessment applications of Unmanned Aerial Systems.
+ Experience in planning and coordinating work, managing project schedules and deliverables, and evaluating and reviewing work done by others including consulting firms.
+ Experience with GIS mapping and geodatabase development.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
