    Description:

    Position Purpose

    This individual is responsible to plan and implement habilitative/rehabilitative programs for individuals who exhibit speech/language/swallowing problems.

    What you will Do

    + Plans, directs, evaluates and conducts habilitative and rehabilitative programs to treat speech, language and/or swallowing disorders.

    + Prepares written reports of diagnostic findings, intervention techniques used, progress made and follow-up status in a timeframe according to policy and procedure.

    + Develops treatment plans, directs, supervises and treats patients/caregiver in accordance with treatment plan.

    + Consults and communicates with patient, family, providers and nursing staff. Assist multidisciplinary team with discharge planning and establishes home therapy programs.

    + Completes required documentation on patients and maintains other department records in accordance with departmental, health center policies and procedures.

    + Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    + Master’s degree in the area of Speech/Language Pathology

    + Must have demonstrated competence in an acute and outpatient patient care setting for at least one year.

    + Current licensure from the Iowa Department of Public Health

    + Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is desirable.

    + Must provide proof of **Basic Life Support** ( **BLS Provider** -American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer-American Red Cross) prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.

    + Must provide proof of **Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse** training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines.
