Description of Work

This position is assigned to the Division Equipment Unit and involves performing a variety of office assistant tasks to support administrative, program, and technical operations. Responsibilities include record keeping, reporting, filing, handling public contact, answering phones, directing calls to the appropriate personnel, and taking messages. The role requires good communication skills and involves processing payroll, inventory, purchase orders, accident reports, and accounts payable through SAP. Additionally, the position includes personnel-related duties, typing correspondence, managing filing, handling incoming and outgoing mail, and other tasks assigned by the Engineer. The job also requires knowledge of office equipment and proficiency with computer technologies such as Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SAP, and Ariba.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Management prefers applicants with the following:
+ Customer service experience, including resolving customer issues
+ Experience with Microsoft Office using programs such as Access, Word, and Excel
+ Experience completing and/or maintaining records and reports
+ Experience interpreting and/or explaining policies, procedures, and laws
+ Experience in record keeping.
Additional Expectations:
The ability to accurately operate office equipment such as computers, calculators, copiers, and fax machines is essential. The candidate must be able to work independently while maintaining and organizing records effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations are required. Strong communication skills are necessary to respond to inquiries and instructions professionally, ensuring positive relations with the public and employees. Courtesy, tact, resourcefulness, and the ability to schedule and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously are important qualities. The employee must be able to learn and independently apply relevant laws, departmental rules, and regulations when performing assigned duties. Work must be conducted in accordance with NCDOT workplace and safety policies. The selected applicant will be expected to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle and may be required to work during non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, emergencies, and adverse weather conditions such as snow, ice, tornadoes, or hurricanes.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and (2) two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
