- New York Post (Los Angeles, CA)

Job Description :
_The New York Post is heading West – and this is your chance to be a part of history as we open a brand-new newsroom and make a significant investment in Los Angeles. The California Post will be a game changer, putting the people of the Golden State first and holding the powerful to account across digital platforms and print._
_This is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: The California Post will bring The New York Post’s DNA of powerful, agenda-setting journalism to the West Coast and be a fresh and fearless voice for common sense._
_Our focus will also go well beyond hard-hitting news and iconoclastic opinion. The nationally recognized Page Six will bring its sassy and brassy attitude directly to the entertainment capital of the world. The California Post Sports department will deliver muscular coverage of the biggest teams in town, from the locker room to the front office. Our Tech team will reveal the latest innovators and innovations that will shape the nation’s future._
_Los Angeles is one of the great cities of the world, and it’s time L.A. – and California at large – had a bold, new voice. The California Post will be that voice. California, here we come!_
As part of this bold expansion into Los Angeles, we are looking for an enterprise-focused **Politics Reporter** to join the California Post team.
Reporting into the Politics Editor, this role will dig beneath the headlines to uncover stories that matter, whether through data-driven investigations, public records, or exclusive sources. You will produce deeply reported, narrative-rich storytelling that holds the powerful to account across California’s political landscape.
This is a role for a reporter with great contacts, sharp instincts, and the drive to pursue stories others miss. The ideal candidate is a natural digger: someone who sees red flags in campaign finance records, knows how to get officials on the phone, on and off the record, and can turn a tip into a must-read exclusive to lead our digital platforms and front page.
Responsibilities:
+ Lead deep-dive and investigative reporting on California politics in Sacramento and Los Angeles.
+ Develop and execute enterprise journalism using all the tools at their command, from great Californian political contacts, to FOIA, data analysis and an insatiable hunger to be first with the stories that matter.
+ Analyze budgets, legislation, campaign finance, court filings, and other sources to surface trends and hold institutions and the power players accountable.
+ Break exclusive investigative stories and pursue original angles that go beyond surface-level coverage.
+ Collaborate closely with editors to refine story ideas, findings, and presentation for both digital and print.
+ Use social media and digital tools to report, source, promote, and enrich investigations.
+ Maintain rigorous fact-checking and narrative clarity, even under extended deadlines.
+ Monitor political developments broadly and use context and depth to inform longer-form storytelling.
+ Work with visual and digital teams to integrate charts, graphics, and supplementary content into investigative stories.
Requirements:
+ 5+ years of investigative or enterprise political reporting in a newsroom setting.
+ Proven track record of uncovering complex stories through public records, data analysis, and exclusive sourcing.
+ Exceptional editorial judgment and narrative storytelling abilities, particularly with long-form journalism.
+ Data-driven mindset: ability to interpret and analyze public financial records, court documents, or policy datasets.
+ Expertise in FOIA processes, public records, and accountability reporting methods.
+ Strong source network within government, advocacy, legal, or community sectors.
+ Proficiency with WordPress or CMS platforms. Familiarity with analytics dashboards and data visualization tools is a plus.
+ High adaptability in a fast-paced environment, with flexibility for irregular hours as investigative work demands.
+ Strong writing and reporting skills are the core of this role. On-camera experience is strongly preferred, as we’re looking for reporters who are comfortable discussing and presenting their stories on video to help extend our journalism across digital and social platforms.
+ Clear communication, collaboration, and resilience in managing prolonged, high-stakes reporting projects.
_Note: The New York Post adheres to a hybrid work model. This role will be expected to report into the office 4 days per week (subject to change depending on business needs)._
At The New York Post we recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, our ranges reflect our good faith estimate to pay fairly as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
In addition to compensation, the company provides eligible employees a comprehensive and highly competitive benefits package, with a variety of physical health, retirement and savings, caregiving, emotional wellbeing, transportation, and other benefits, including “elective” benefits employees may select to best fit the needs and personal situations of our diverse workforce.
As an equal opportunity employer, the New York Post does not discriminate in hiring or the terms and conditions of employment because of an individual’s race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, citizenship or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law. The New York Post will consider the provision of reasonable accommodations to known physical or mental disabilities of otherwise qualified applicants to enable them to participate in our application process and to effectively perform the essential functions of the job, unless doing so would impose an undue financial or operational hardship.
Pay Range: $95,000 - $110,000
