    Description of Duties:

    The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) in Syracuse, NY, invites applications for a full-time Associate Director of Admissions, with a focus on transfer and international student recruitment and enrollment. The Associate Director is a key position within the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, providing leadership to a variety of activities and outreach efforts. The Associate Director will provide strategic direction with a focus on best practices and continuous improvement regarding transfer student, out-of-state, and international student recruitment. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.

     

    Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following.

    Meeting recruitment and enrollment goals:

    + Meet new undergraduate student recruitment and enrollment targets by informing prospective students and their families about the academic and student life opportunities that exist at ESF. Recruitment activities include electronic communications, college fairs, high school and community college visits, on and off-campus admission events, virtual events, and transfer days.

    + Utilize external partners and research in support of admissions strategies including name purchases snd other vehicles to develop prospect engagement.

    + Provide data-driven insights to inform recruitment and admissions ensuring goals are met for applications, enrollment, and yield.

    + Work collaboratively to monitor key enrollment indicators, evaluate enrollment outcomes, and use data to refine strategies and improve performance.

    Transfer and International student recruitment:

    + Review students' applications for admission and supporting materials to determine eligibility for admission. Evaluate transfer credit. Evaluate first-year applications for advanced standing credit. Complete change of major requests and associated review.

    + Responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive recruitment strategy for prospective undergraduate transfer students and developing and maintaining a community college relations program. Includes identifying and developing opportunities for partnerships and strategic initiatives. Supervise assigned staff. Interact professionally using strong interpersonal skills and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners.

    + Support the design and implementation of a recruitment plan that aligns with the College's strategic plan and strategic enrollment goals for transfer and international students; assess and update enrollment plans as needed to meet short and long-term objectives; initiate and maintain articulation and other partnership agreements with community colleges.

    + Maintain admission standards, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the Registrar, College faculty, administrators, and academic advisors.

    + Collaborate with the Transfer Articulation Coordinator to maximize student transfer credits in a timely and effective manner.

    + Development and/or implementation of domestic and international recruitment activities and strategies to attract new students to the college. In collaboration with the Office of International Education, the Associate Director will monitor international prospects and applications and implement strategies to convert them in the admissions funnel; utilize yield strategies to increase enrollment of international first-year and transfer students; and review applications and render admission decisions for international and domestic applicants.

    + Monitor application flow, the review process, credit evaluation, deposits, and withdrawal rates throughout the admission cycle; develop and implement recommendations from analyzing trends. Participate in institutional assessment procedures, especially those related to enrollment and specifically to department operations.

    Department support:

    + Collaborate with various campus stakeholders such as the Provost, Deans, Department Chairs, Registrar's Office, and Student Affairs to promote successful student transition programs for incoming undergraduate transfer students.

    + Supervises staff -- train, create professional development plans, and evaluate direct reports to ensure that employees have, and utilize, up-to-date knowledge of relevant College programs and policies. Evaluate and coach staff on their performance.

    + Facilitate organizational development and change to create an effective, progressive, efficient, and competitive admission operation.

    Job Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's degree (higher education, business, communications, or a related field).

    + 3 years related experience in a college or university setting.

    + 3 years of progressive leadership experience in college admissions, including recruitment, enrollment planning, and program development.

    + 3 years of experience in public speaking and marketing ability in a higher education environment or similar setting.

    + Experience with cross-cultural competencies, including strong emotional intelligence, and the ability to engage and build relationships with college constituencies and marginalized/underrepresented communities.

    + Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks with initiative and flexibility.

    + Highly developed verbal and written communication skills

    + Ability to work autonomously and as a team member within a collegial setting.

    + Ability to lift 50 lbs. of admissions materials for events required. Must be able to drive long distances and stand for extended periods of time.

    + Must have a valid driver's license.

    + Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master's degree in related field (higher education, student affairs or similar)

    + 5+ years related experience in a college or university setting.

    + 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in college admissions, including recruitment, enrollment planning, and program development.

    + 5+ years of experience in public speaking and marketing ability in a higher education environment or similar setting.

    + 5+ years of experience leading and supervising a team including hiring, training, evaluations, and coaching. Experience managing and working in a collective bargaining environment.

    + 5+ years of experience and knowledge in educational policies, financial aid, large-scale computer systems, data management, and laws and policies affecting College admissions and recruitment.

    + Proven strong commitment to an organization's diversity and sensitivity around social equity. Knowledge and experience in the needs of educationally and economically disadvantaged student populations preferred.

    + Ability to manage complex interdepartmental processes and organize logistical data and events.

    + Ability to use personal selling and marketing techniques to attract prospective students and their families to the College.

    + Experience coordinating the primary functional areas of admissions such as communications, off-campus recruitment, visitor event management, and applicant evaluation.

    + Highly effective interpersonal and relationship development skills.

    + Knowledge of Slate CRM and Banner SIS.

    In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act" institutions of higher education are required to prepare an annual report containing information on campus security policies and campus statistics.
