    + Introduction

    PHEASANT PROGRAM

    The Wildlife Division is seeking to hire a total of three to seven Seasonal Resource Assistants to work for the pheasant program to assist with pheasant stocking statewide. The Seasonal Resource Assistant will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks, including but not limited to loading and unloading heavy crates, driving a 4WD vehicle in difficult terrain, handling live birds and working in areas where hunting is occurring. Additional duties may include transporting and paddling kayaks in checking wood duck nest boxes and/or retrieval of deer heads for testing purposes.

    SCHEDULE

    + The positions are thirty-five (35) to forty (40) hours three to four days per week, Monday through Saturday, between 7:30 am – 5:00 pm (hours flexible) with occasional evening work required.

    + The selected candidates must have a valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    + Responsible for the transportation, delivery and handling of live pheasants; and

    + Provides support and assistance to a variety of Wildlife Division programs.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    Ability to follow instructions.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Preferred applicant must have:

    + A valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a clean driving record;

    + The ability to navigate using maps;

    + The ability to work as part of a team or independently and familiarity with the pheasant stocking program.

    + Applicant must be willing to handle live birds and be able to lift up to 50 lbs; and Employee must be willing to work outdoors in natural habitats in a variety of adverse weather conditions and under potentially hazardous field conditions.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.

    + Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:

    + Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.

    + Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.

    + College training in a specific field.

    + Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific state facilities.

    + Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.

    + Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
