Job Description
Position Purpose:
Responsible for executing the accounting and controlling functions for Veolia Water Milwaukee. This role provides professional financial support, expertise, and guidance to internal stakeholders including financial and operational management. The primary focus is on building and analyzing the financial statements of Veolia Water Milwaukee. Key responsibilities include comparing reported results to budgets, forecasts, and prior-year trends, as well as preparing ad hoc analyses.
Adherence to general accounting principles is critical-especially in the accurate recording of balance sheet components, revenue recognition, cost of sales (COS) matching, and capital budgeting/expenditure reporting. These practices ensure timely and accurate disclosures for both internal and external reporting.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Finance Manager and in accordance with organizational accounting policies, the Financial Analyst will:
+ Execute the general accounting processes and structure for the regional business in line with corporate Finance policies and directives.
+ Prepare and present financial statements, ensuring proper revenue recognition, accurate accruals, provisions, and SG&A activity. Maintain the integrity of balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reporting.
+ Prepare journal entries with emphasis on completeness and accuracy, particularly for accruals.
+ Support business processes such as invoicing, purchasing, and account reconciliations.
+ Ensure compliance with the month-end closing schedule; act as liaison to operational and overhead teams, supporting variance analysis, trend reporting, forecasting, and deadline adherence.
+ Recommend improvements to accounting and operational processes that enhance efficiency, automation, and internal controls.
+ Analyze financial and operational performance, including reviews of internal and external reporting-comparing revenue, costs, profitability, and liquidity against budget, forecasts, and prior year.
+ Contribute to preparation of monthly reports and bridge analyses on working capital and profitability metrics.
+ Assist in the formulation of budgets and forecasts; collaborate with operational and SG&A departments to ensure accuracy and alignment.
+ Support the communication and presentation of financial results and forecasts to supervisors and senior leadership.
+ Coordinate and prepare audit workpapers for external audits, collaborating closely with management to fulfill requirements.
+ Deliver finance and accounting training to business units and act as a key partner to operational staff.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
+ 2 years of experience in accounting or financial management preferred.
+ Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls; IFRS experience a plus.
+ Proven ability to apply financial theory and techniques in a practical business context.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
+ Experience with ERP systems; SAP experience preferred.
+ Strong computing skills, with proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
+ Understanding and application of applicable laws, regulations, and the Company's Code of Business Conduct.
+ Ability to apply company policies effectively and demonstrate a strong understanding of the purpose behind tasks.
+ Analytical mindset with ability to independently develop complex analyses and foster innovation.
+ Team-oriented with willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
+ Strong time management skills with consistent delivery on deadlines.
+ High attention to detail and quality, with a process-oriented approach.
+ Proactive in identifying and resolving discrepancies and opportunities for process improvement.
+ Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
