Corporate Audit Services (CAS) is an independent and objective auditing and consulting function dedicated to enhancing operational efficiency across Eli Lilly and Company. CAS supports the organization’s strategic goals by evaluating and improving risk management, control, and governance processes through a disciplined and methodical approach.
The Senior Director of Data Analytics, Automation, and Strategy plays a pivotal role in advancing CAS’s capabilities in data-driven auditing and enterprise assurance. This leader will drive innovation through analytics, automation, and emerging technologies such as generative AI, while fostering collaboration across assurance functions such as Ethics and Compliance, Integrated Risk Management, and Global Quality.
The primary focus of the of this role is to lead the development and continuous refinement of Corporate Audit Services’ data analytics, automation, and artificial intelligence capabilities. Within CAS, the Senior Director will be responsible for shaping and executing a comprehensive data strategy, one that leverages enterprise data assets and embraces emerging technologies, to elevate the impact and efficiency of audit and assurance activities.
This individual will lead a team of data analytics and automation professionals, ensuring the department’s needs for analytics and fraud detection are met. The team will deliver analytics-driven services and solutions that support CAS’s independent risk assessments and audit engagements. The Senior Director will oversee all aspects of the function’s operations, including strategic planning, organizational design, staffing, and day-to-day leadership.
A key responsibility of this role is to integrate data analytics and automation throughout the audit lifecycle. By doing so, the Senior Director will help fulfill internal audit objectives, enhance audit efficiency, deliver greater value to stakeholders, and strengthen the overall assurance provided by CAS. Beyond CAS, the role will also support enterprise-wide initiatives that apply analytics and automation across assurance functions. This includes leveraging tools and technologies to drive operational efficiencies, uncover insights and themes, and reinforce a strong and resilient control environment.
In addition to executing CAS’s analytics and automation strategy, the Senior Director will serve as a champion of best practices, both within internal assurance functions and in collaboration with external counterparts. The role requires building strong, collaborative relationships with audit colleagues and business stakeholders across the enterprise. Through these partnerships, the Senior Director will help advance the use and impact of analytics and automation in strengthening the company’s risk and control framework.
This position reports directly to the Sr. Vice President – Finance and General Auditor.
Responsibilities
Data Analytics and Automation Strategy
+ Lead the vision, strategy, and implementation of data analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, and other technical solutions to strengthen the company’s risk and control environment.
+ Define and enforce development standards, prioritization criteria, and processes to guide team projects and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
+ Innovate and implement strategies to acquire and utilize data in the audit process, enhancing internal audit efficiency and productivity.
+ Leverage analytics and automation tools to optimize internal controls testing and enable continuous audit and monitoring programs.
+ Conduct comprehensive analysis of large data sets to identify anomalies, outliers, and patterns that assess the effectiveness of internal controls.
+ Develop and present insightful reports and visual dashboards that integrate quantitative and qualitative data from enterprise assurance functions.
+ Foster collaboration with other data analytics teams and identify opportunities to leverage existing analytics mechanisms in audit engagements.
+ Cultivate expertise in key enterprise data sources and lineage to derive meaningful audit analytics results.
+ Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to stay informed of changes in data architecture and identify new data sources for analytics.
+ Seek external perspectives on processes and technologies to enhance Lilly’s capabilities in data access, utilization, and automation.
Project Management and Audit Support
+ Ensure successful and timely execution of data analytics-related and other audit activities throughout the audit cycle.
+ Contribute to the development of streamlined engagement strategies, including clearly defined scopes, fieldwork approaches, and work programs.
+ Provide direction and support in crafting ad-hoc and continuous monitoring reports.
+ Collaborate with Internal Audit leadership to identify key performance indicators and analytics use cases that enhance audit processes and value.
+ Demonstrate proficiency in internal audit and risk assessment processes, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through analytics tools or new technologies.
+ Utilize data analytics tools and advanced techniques for data preparation, analysis, and visualization to support audit projects.
+ Fulfill data analytics requests from auditors, including data extractions using business intelligence tools and programming software.
+ Conduct ongoing assessments of CAS’s analytics needs, capabilities, and tools, recommending enhancements as needed.
Leadership and Coaching
+ Lead a high-performing team of data analytics and automation professionals, responsible for delivering analytics-driven solutions that support CAS’s risk assessments, fraud detection, and audit engagements.
+ Serve as a mentor and coach, developing team capabilities in advanced analytics, automation, and assurance methodologies.
+ Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration, encouraging the adoption of emerging technologies such as generative AI to enhance audit effectiveness.
+ Promote cross-functional collaboration by building strong partnerships with internal audit colleagues and enterprise stakeholders across assurance functions.
+ Lead efforts to upskill the broader CAS organization in data analytics and automation by sharing knowledge, offering training opportunities, and enabling all internal audit team members to adopt tools and techniques that enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
Basic Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in IT-related field (Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, etc.)
+ Minimum requirement of 6 years in progressive experience driving business outcomes through innovative IT/Data solutions.
+ Proven expertise in Power BI, including semantic modeling, DAX, Power Query, and advanced visualization techniques.

+ Proven expertise in Microsoft Fabric
+ Demonstrated ability to gather requirements and lead successful implementation of complex processes, systems, and capabilities
+ Previous audit experience with strong understanding of audit process automation design and implementation.
+ Demonstrated strong teamwork, communication, leadership and influence skills.
+ Experience in cross-functional collaboration.
+ Excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management.

+ Strong design sense and familiarity with UX/UI best practices in data presentation.
+ Experience with Data Engineering and Data Architecture concepts and best practices
+ Experience with working with data from ServiceNow, Veeva, Workday, SAP, and other enterprise platforms.
+ Understanding of Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other analytics tools and technologies
+ Practical experience with internal control standards and control testing strategies.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$154,500 - $239,800
Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
