The Performance Materials operating division, regionally headquartered in Wyandotte is seeking a motivated Public Affairs Manager. This role will develop a strategic public affairs strategy for the Wyandotte site in Michigan and duplicate that for the other performance materials locations in North America.
This role will work closely with the communications/public affairs leads for BASF Canada and BASF Mexico to ensure the needs of the Performance Materials business are being successfully addressed. The role will report to the Head of Communications for the Performance Materials business in North America and will sit on the Wyandotte Site Leadership Team as well as the PM North American Extended Operations Leadership Team. + Leveraging your education in public policy, communications, journalism, public relations, business administration or related discipline and your experience in public affairs, advocacy and communications, you will drive the public affairs strategy development and implementation for Performance Materials in North America.
+ Providing strategic public affairs and issues management counsel on key issues impacting the PMN Operations (PMN/O) sites to protect BASF’s license to operate and reputation in the local communities and states where we operate.
+ Directing crisis communication efforts, devising proactive strategies to mitigate adverse publicity and safeguard organizational standing.
+ Understanding technical aspects of laws, regulations, and issues impacting the PMN/O sites and the chemical industry to develop and manage content for external communications (community, government officials, civic leaders) regarding these regulations, their impact on the PMN/O sites, and the required actions.
+ Monitoring and assessing public sentiment and legislative shifts, evaluating potential impacts on organizational operations and public perception.
+ Coordinating with key trade associations (local, state, and regional) on public affairs strategy for key issues.
+ Providing strategic assistance to in-house attorneys on legal matters involving significant public or community issues or media outreach.
+ Onboarding and managing contracted resources and public relations firms to ensure deliverables that support the public affairs/communications strategy.
+ Developing a community outreach strategy (as part of the broader PA strategy), including charitable donations, science education, aligning site activities with employee resource groups, and other topics deemed important by the Wyandotte Site Leadership Team. This approach will be shared with the other PMN/O sites.
+ Providing support as needed to PMN/O sites in North America for community outreach/relations and serving as the main regional point of contact for PMN NA (ensuring awareness of all activities across the sites).
