We are looking for a senior, forward-thinking individual to join our Innovation team. In this role you will support our Investment Management businesses for Fixed Income by owning the innovation process from idea generation through prototyping and validation with the desk. An ideal candidate is highly effective at translating business challenges into technological solutions, driving innovation through cutting-edge research in quantitative finance, AI, machine learning and NLP. The role demands a strategic mindset that can bridge the gap with current capabilities through practical applications of AI/ML and deliver clear business value.

Background: Investment Management Fintech Strategies (IMFS) is a global team headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania. IMFS serves to actively explore new technologies in ways that could dramatically improve the Vanguard’s investment performance, make capital markets work better for our investors, and embed a culture of innovation throughout Vanguard. This team seeks out internal and external partners and prospects all aspects of technology for ways to experiment and disrupt securities investing across all asset classes. We focus on data strategies including new sources of data and advanced analytics capabilities including machine learning and artificial intelligence; platform and visualization strategies; and market structure strategies.

Core Responsibilities

+ Work closely with Fixed Income portfolio managers and trading desks to understand their business goals, translate those into research and prototyping requirements, refine solutions based on business feedback.

+ Lead the full life cycle of innovation: ideation, prototyping, validation with desk and collaborate with product /engineering teams on production deployment.

+ Build and manage a balanced portfolio of innovation use cases ranging from incremental to “moonshot”, securing buy-in from business stakeholders.

+ Collaborate with Fixed Income PMs/traders and quant researchers to design and develop systematic trading strategies and decision-making processes.

+ Drive experimentation and prototyping in generative AI and agentic workflow solutions that transform how the desk conducts research, portfolio management and trading.

+ Input into the development of research platform, analytical tools and data strategies to scale AI/ML research in Investment Management.

+ Establish and maintain working relationships with senior leaders across Fixed Income divisions and obtain executive level support for the innovation roadmap.

+ Communicate complex ideas and solutions effectively to non-technical and technical business stakeholders.

+ Be a Vanguard thought leader in application of AI in Fixed Income Portfolio Management and Trading through active industry participation.

Qualifications

+ Post-graduate degree in computer science, Mathematics or Quantitative Finance preferred.

+ Minimum seven to ten years’ experience in data science or quantitative research in at least one asset class for Fixed Income markets.

+ Domain expert in the market microstructure of fixed income markets.

+ Proficient in Python; experience with common machine learning libraries, working with data engineers, and production deployment of models.

+ Experience in designing and deploying Gen AI solutions or agentic workflows in a financial market context a plus.

+ Experience working with senior executives to drive alignment and communicate the value.

+ Track record of working with Portfolio Manages and Traders on complex technical challenges through collaboration and innovation.

+ Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable insights.

+ Self-starter, motivated, independent, curious, versatile team player.

+ Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to think strategically.

+ Proven experience working in a flexible, fast-paced environment. Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
