    Position Overview:

    Performs, with MD’s oversight, in the technical management of implanted cardiac pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) devices. Manages device patients and their care and implements treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team. Performs basic interrogation, adjustments to programming per order, and troubleshoot basic, intermediate and advanced device issues. Will also be responsible for remotely monitored patients and provide follow up calls to each patient about the status of their device.

    JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    + Contributes to the patient plan of care through collection of patient specific data.

    + Organizes and maintains a remote device monitoring process for the ongoing care of patients with home monitors; including daily oversight, patient instruction, and maintaining communication with patients concerning their monitoring results.

    + Assesses patient’s recent symptoms, pertinent history, and indication for the device.

    + Informs the MD of changes and significant problems in a timely manner.

    + Performs appropriate ongoing assessment utilizing appropriate data sources and documented according to policy.

    + Organizes patient care delivery needs and demonstrates ability to effectively set priorities.

    + Provides patient care with respect and attention to patient privacy, age specific needs and cultural diversity.

    + Anticipates and determines the needs of the physician in a consistent manner to achieve quality patient care.

    + Prepares clinic and patients for clinic visits.

    Critical and Analytical Thinking:

    + Analyzes problems to reach practical conclusions and institutes effective changes; performs duties using independent judgment.

    Technical:

    + Uses advance and in-depth knowledge/understanding of the device technology, the purpose of device implant, the expected alteration in clinical condition, and potential device related cause for patient symptoms.

    + Effective and consistent troubleshooting device problems in the wide array of implantable device types implanted.

    + Interrogates pacemakers and ICS from all major manufacturers.

    + Analyzes device function: review of parameters, testing of sensing and capture for each lead, assessing lead integrity and battery status.

    + Uses device management protocol to make basic changes to optimize programming.

    + Understands the interaction between programming changes and the potential clinical outcome, collaborates with MD to ensure best programming.

    + Evaluates stored and real time EKGs and identifies arrhythmias, pacing or sensing problems, and identifies appropriate or inappropriate device intervention for arrhythmias.

    + Notifies the MD of abnormal findings and appropriately seeks guidance regarding programming changes or referral for further evaluation by MD.

    + Screens and documents rhythm strips sent electronically by patients being monitored remotely.

    Communication (Oral and Written)

    + Evaluates effectiveness of care and care coordination progressing patients toward desired outcomes.

    + Revises/updates plan of care with an MD order according to individual patient response by interventions.

    + Involves the patient, caregiver, and MD in the ongoing evaluation, and ongoing home care delivery as appropriate.

    + Educates appropriate age, cultural and literacy needs of the patient and/or care giver.

    + Revisions to plan of care are communicated to the patient/caregiver and documented according to department policy/procedure.

    + Proactively monitors continuity of care at a high developed skill level and expedites delivery of services to facilitate a patient centered experience.

    + Assists in the evaluation of patient care outcomes for individual patients and groups of patients.

    + Supports changes within the area to improve overall patient care outcomes.

    Leadership and Professional Accountability:

    + Develops and implements patient/caregiver teaching plan based on identified health education needs.

    + Provides a safe environment and safe delivery of care. Correctly identifying patients prior to implementation of any intervention.

    + Follows established departmental policies and procedures: safety, fire, disaster preparedness, environmental and infection control standards.

    + Seeks ways to identify and improve the quality and safety of patient care in the area.

    + Assumes a reliable leadership role and maintains an active clinical partnership with management.

    + Assumes responsibility for professional development of self and contributes to and assists with the professional development of others.

    Affiliate Citizenship:

    Adheres to all policies and procedures (i.e., Administrative and Human Resources), practices safe work habits, and engages in good business standards and practices.

    EDUCATION:

    High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

    CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

    BLS- Basic Life Support Certifications

     

    Cardiac Device Training by CIED Manufacturer certificate of completion within 12 months

    TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

    2 years recent relevant experience

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE** **:

    + Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.

    + Demonstrates in-depth knowledge, technical skills and abilities to perform the technical aspects of the essential functions.

    + Attention to details.

    + Ability to write legibly.

    Pay Range is $43.64 to $54.55 / hour

     

    _The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package._ _​_
