Summary You will serve as an ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS WORKER in the CRANE MAINTENANCE DIVISION OF THE LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will perform work of limited skills, which do not require the all-around skills of an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic Journeyman. You will perform installations, modifications, troubleshooting, testing and repairing of category I, II, and III cranes employing solid-state electronic controls and devices. You will make minor electronic modifications on equipment when required, to improve maintenance and operation. Performs intricate micro soldering operations. You will align and calibrates equipment using calibration standards and alignment procedures when available and occasionally aligns by using schematics and available technical data. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, such as: Testing, repairing, and replacing such components and parts as: resistors, capacitors, transistors, diodes, integrated circuits, regulated power supplies, relays, switches and motor drive controls. Being familiar with basic test equipment operation, such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, signal generators, and oscilloscopes, in order to follow specified checkout procedures and compare readings with specified values. Working on microprocessors, computers and associated peripheral equipment. Troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, testing and installing industrial electronics-controlled equipment. Reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, electrical wiring diagrams, electronic schematics, computer logic circuits, technical procedures and to interpret data from technical manuals. Aligning and calibrating equipment using calibration standards and alignment procedures.
