Job Overview
The Project and Cost Accounting Manager position is an essential role responsible for maintaining timely and accurate accounting systems for the Cambrex Charles City (Iowa) site and driving efforts to meet site financial goals. This position manages cost accounting and project accounting functions for the site and is a key contributor to FP&A and GAAP reporting functions. The Site and BU Management teams depend on this position to provide reliable and relevant financial information for monitoring performance and enabling business decisions. The Project and Cost Accounting Manager upholds a robust system of internal controls and actively seeks opportunities for Operational Excellence.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Drives efforts to meet site financial targets for profitability and cost savings through collaboration with various functional areas. Monitors results and identifies risks and opportunities to meet or exceed targets.
+ Supervises and promotes professional development of team members responsible for the Cost Accounting and Project Accounting functions.
+ Represents Finance in the review process for client proposals, contracts and project change orders.
+ Serves as SME for Revenue and COGS recognition under ASC 606 accounting rules once adequately trained on Cambrex methodology, systems and processes.
+ Manages the month-end closing process for Production and Project Accounting modules and approves team members’ entries and reconciliations.
+ Analyzes financial statement results for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and Cambrex policies.
+ Leads direct reports in preparation of assigned portions of the annual budget and monthly financial forecast. Performs reviews and analyses for accuracy and completeness, while ensuring on-time submission to the VP of Finance, CDMO BU.
+ Leads or supports site level efforts to continuously improve project and cost accounting functions with a focus on automation via SAP, PowerBI, Hyperion and other IT platforms. Coordinates with other Cambrex sites to support company-wide best practices.
+ Provides routine and ad-hoc financial information and analyses to Site Management and Corporate Finance & Tax departments as assigned.
+ Identifies and implements Operational Excellence opportunities to continuously improve Accounting processes and procedures.
+ Participates in financial audits and assessments of internal controls.
+ Maintains compliance with relevant Site and Corporate policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Skills
+ Exceptional written and oral communication skills, capable of providing clear and concise information to a variety of audiences with varying levels of financial acumen
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform detailed and complex numerical computations
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver quality work while adhering to deadlines
Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
+ 7+ years of accounting experience, including budget/forecast and cost accounting responsibilities in a manufacturing environment
+ Prior experience as a people leader
+ Master’s degree, CPA and/or CMA designation preferred for candidates on lower end of experience requirement
+ Solid knowledge of GAAP accounting and Internal Controls, with working knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition requirements
+ Strong computer skills on a Microsoft platform and Office suite, including advanced Excel skills
+ Prior experience utilizing an enterprise software system, preferably including SAP
+ Experience with Hyperion systems including HFM, Planning, SmartView and/or ESSBASE beneficial
