Description of Work Unit
The Department of Clinical Sciences mission is to assure the health and productivity of animals to meet societal needs through high quality educational programs for professional veterinary medical students, graduate veterinarians, and the public through a faculty and veterinary medical center of excellence, and to advance and disseminate comparative biomedical knowledge in an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Position Summary
The Orthopaedic Research Center laboratory is seeking a hardworking, dependable, and dedicated student to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant. This position offers an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in gaining valuable hands-on experience in a research laboratory environment.
Work 10–20 hours per week, with availability Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Year-round availability is required, including spring and fall semesters as well as summer break.
Winter break hours are optional.
Position Minimum Qualifications
+ Completed, or in the process of completing,General BiologyandGeneral Chemistrycoursework.
+ Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
+ Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Willingness to learn new techniques and work both independently and as part of a team.

Duty/Responsibility
+ Perform routine laboratory tasks such as weighing chemicals, preparing solutions, adjusting pH, sterile filtration/autoclaving, and restocking supplies.
+ Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory workspaces, ensuring compliance with safety standards and protocols.
+ Assist with equipment preparation, set-up, and routine maintenance as directed.

Duty/Responsibility
+ Support ongoing research activities by accurately recording data, assisting with basic analysis, and preparing simple reports.
+ Depending on interest and skill level, may assist with advanced research techniques including cell culture, molecular assays ( DNA , RNA , PCR ), ELISA assays, histology, animal studies, and data presentation.
+ Participate in team meetings and contribute to the preparation of research summaries or manuscripts when appropriate.
