Description of Work Unit
The Colorado State University Department of Athletics sponsors 16 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports and competes as a member of NCAA Division I ( FBS ). The University is a current member of the Mountain West Conference and future member of the Pac-12 Conference. The University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, 65 miles north of Denver. Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Performance Nutrition will assist with the development and administration of all aspects of a performance nutrition program for the institution’s NCAA Division I ( FBS ) intercollegiate athletics program which sponsors 16 men’s and women’s sports.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition, health/exercise science or nutrition-related field
+ Minimum of one year of experience in a performance nutrition program
+ Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist ( RDN ) with active status through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (www.cdrnet.org)
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills
+ Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Sports nutrition program experience in intercollegiate/professional athletics or sports-related field
+ Master’s degree in Nutrition or Nutrition-related field
+ Board Certified as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics ( CSSD )
+ Current CPR , AED and first aid certifications
+ Strong attention to detail
+ Understanding and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Essential Duties
Job Duty CategoryNutritional Counseling, Education, and Outreach
Duty/Responsibility
+ Assist with nutrition plans based on nutritional demands for competitive excellence
+ Assist with nutrition education and outreach to student-athletes including coordination of cooking classes, grocery store tours, social media and nutritional intervention
+ Collaborate with nutrition and dietetics personnel on campus and in the community
+ Provide a positive influence and motivate student-athletes for optimal performance nutrition
+ Assist with counseling student-athletes on optimal nutrition practices for training, competition, exercise recovery, injury and illness prevention and recovery, hydration, and supplementation
+ Assist with identifying and addressing nutritional challenges to performance with special attention to food allergies, bone mineral density concerns, gastrointestinal disturbances, iron depletion or deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, and diabetes
+ Utilize body composition and nutritional measurements to educate and evaluate student-athletes on maintaining proper body composition consistent with good health and peak performance
+ Assist with evaluating effectiveness of nutritional strategies toward meeting desired outcomes and maintains current and accurate documentation as it relates to student’s care current with medical privacy standards

+ Work proactively with other members of the Health and Performance unit in the overall · development and well-being of student-athletes including collaborating on welfare issues such as physical and mental health, nutrition, rehabilitation of injuries, athletic performance, academic performance, etc.
+ Assist in coordination with team physicians and athletics department’s disordered eating task force in order to recognize, evaluate and provide early intervention of disordered eating
+ Assist in coordination of nutritional care and maintain open communication with coaches, sport administrators, and Health and Performance staff.

+ Assist with daily maintenance of fueling stations, offices, and equipment to include proper cleaning in conformity with health and safety expectations
+ Ensure professional appearance of facility for recruiting purposes
+ Assist with recruiting visits of prospective student-athletes
+ Assist with maintaining an environment of mutual respect and civility in the fueling station that is conductive to a supportive, productive and healthy atmosphere for both male and female student-athletes

+ Participate as a member of the Health and Performance unit by attending staff meetings and collaborating on initiatives that serve the best interests of CSU Athletics
+ Maintain comprehensive understanding of unit’s goals, priorities, and supports the unit’s programs and events
+ Assist with oversight of students employees, volunteers, and interns
+ Maintains strong working relationships with internal and external partners
+ Ensure compliance with all departmental, University, conference and NCAA procedures, rules and regulations
+ Perform other duties as assigned
