    Position Summary

    As the cold and wet part of the year approaches, we are once again gearing up to get our Winter Shelter up and running to help provide a safe and stable environment for some of our most vulnerable community members. The person in this position will perform all duties of a Winter Shelter Aide with additional responsibilities that include working collaboratively with Supervisors or Managers in assigning work, training to policies and procedures, leading team in quality improvement and quality assurance projects, and motivating and supporting the Winter Shelter Aide team.

     

    $21.19 - $28.48 per hour (plus 5% pay period stipend)*

     

    *Lincoln County follows Oregon Pay Equity laws in reviewing education and experience for wage offer.

     

    Lincoln County's Winter Shelter is open November 1st through April 30th, 7 days a week.

     

    We are filling BOTH swing-shift (5pm-12am) and graveyard (12am-8am) positions for the shelter.

    Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

     

    This position involves the use of County vehicles and occasional transportation of guests.

    Lead Duties:

    + Provide on-the-job training and new hire orientation, assigns tasks, works collaboratively with supervisor or manager to motivate, engage and support staff.

    + Monitor team performance and reports on metrics, quality improvement and assurance projects.

    Daily Programs:

    + Present guest with conduct guidelines, shelter contract and list of prohibited materials, verbally explain conduct guidelines and prohibited materials as well as providing written documentation

    + Screen guests for prohibited items and kenneling needs upon entry, provide storage bags and document belongings

    + Assist with cleaning, site upkeep, kitchen, laundry, meals, showers, restrooms, and supportive services.

    + Facilitate and monitor guests with laundry or showers, or restrooms and smoking breaks access.

    + Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for shelter guests, and staff.

    + Staff reception area to include guest engagement and answering phones, handing out hygiene items and monitoring facility safety.

    + Assist with meal preparation and distribution.

    + Inventory and maintain supplies, including kitchen and cleaning supplies (bleach, gloves, masks, etc.)

    Safety:

    + Maintain the safety and security of the facility.

    + Ensure that the shelter facility rules and regulations are followed.

    + Conduct searches and security checks of guests and facility and document findings within the guidelines.

    + Report any issues or problems encountered with residents.

    Other Functions:

    + Assist clients with navigation to resources.

    + May be assigned other duties.

    Typical Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    + High School Diploma / GED

    + Oregon Driver's License required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

    Minimum Experience Level

    + One year of work experience with disadvantaged/disenfranchised populations that includes exposure to individuals who are unhoused.

     

    Substitution Note: Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties as determined by the County.

    Desirable Qualifications :

    + Bilingual and/or bicultural competencies for the Latino population are preferred.

    Knowledge of:

    + Working with unhoused populations or in a shelter setting

    Skill or ability to:

    + Maintain confidential information.

    + De-escalate, redirect and remain calm when guests are in distress

    + Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, and/or vendors.

    + Convey information, ideas, and facts both orally and in writing to supervisors, colleagues, and individuals, inside and outside the county, using language and a format the audience will best understand.

    + Effectively relate well with others, including supervisors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the county. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and working to maintain constructive working relationships.

    + Take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work. Show up to work on time, and follows instructions, policies, and procedures. Meet productivity standards, deadlines, and work schedules.
