    Minimum Qualifications

    Six months of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or in administrative services; OR

     

    Six months of training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute; OR

     

    Fifteen semester hours of college training.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirement within six months of employment.

     

    An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    The Communications Officer will:

    + Answer calls and requests from officers, emergency personnel, and the public.

    + Gather information from complaints or incidents, decide what action is needed, and quickly notify or dispatch officers.

    + Enter, update, and manage records in law enforcement databases (such as vehicle registrations, licenses, stolen property, or missing persons).

    + Keep accurate logs, reports, and records of daily communications and activities.

    + Update and maintain the Public Crime Log regularly.

    + Monitor security cameras (CCTV) and send officers when suspicious or criminal activity is observed.

    Position-Specific Details:

    Location and Work Schedule: T his position is for a Communications Officer in University Police.

     

    This position reports to the Police Lieutenant and will serve as a dispatcher. This position requires a commitment to a 12-hour rotating shift schedule to provide 24/7 operational coverage. The schedule will alternate between day and night shifts, and employees will be required to work weekends and holidays as part of the normal rotation. We offer a structured rotation that provides regular breaks and consecutive days off to help balance the demands of the schedule. This position may be subject to overtime and is considered non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

     

    Appointment Type: This vacancy is being announced as a classified position and is open to all qualified applicants and may be filled as a probationary or promotional appointment .
