    Day - 08 Hour (United States of America)

     

    This is a Stanford Health Care job.

     

    A Brief Overview

     

    Embeds and cuts a wide variety of dermatologic tissue for Mohs Surgery including Mohs for Melanoma, DFSP, EMPD, and other non-melanoma skin cancers. Sections frozen embedded tissue at 1-7 microns and mounts on microscope slides. Performs a variety of staining techniques, including immunohistochemical procedure and hematoxylin and eosin stain for microscopic evaluation. A Mohs Tech completes daily work, resolving most technical problems that arise, and interprets policies in terms of established objectives and procedures.

    What you will do

    + Proficiency of level I technician skills

    + Perform special stains such as IHC, Mart-1, and CK7

    + Performs complex and unusual procedures requiring knowledge and skills gained through experience.

    + Ink tissue according to inking legend and LIP preference

    + Draw specimen diagram on Mohs map according to tissue received

    + Prepare non-melanoma and melanoma Mohs blocks for permanent sections

    + Inputting and filing Mohs maps

    + Maintain daily logs (i.e. cryostat maintenance, ambient temp logs, stainer log etc.)

    + Troubleshoot equipment issues and issues tissue as needed

    + Performs other duties as requested

    Education Qualifications

    + High School Diploma or GED equivalent Required

    + Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma from an approved school/institution or equivalent documented training Required

    + Bachelor’s Degree in a related field Preferred

    + Histology Technician or Histotechnologist Preferred

    Experience Qualifications

    + 2-3 years of Mohs Tech experience

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Knowledge of and ability to use and apply medical terminology in performing his/her duties.

    + Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

    + Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job.

    + Ability to solve problems and identify solutions.

    + Ability to demonstrate customer service skills in interactions with all patients, families, and staff, including high volume and stressful situations.

    + Ability to work independently as well as an integral part of the patient care team.

    + Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures.

    + Ability to demonstrate business communication skills including speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job (including legible penmanship/handwriting, knowledge of grammar and syntax and ability to write clear and concise clinical reports)

    + Ability to learn and grasp and update clinical knowledge on a regular basis (through HealthStream classes, continuing education and other work-related courses and training) to adapt to an ever-changing healthcare environment.

    Licenses and Certifications

    + BLS - Basic Life Support .

    Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $51.33 - $57.82 per hour

     

    The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
