Position Overview

The Mgr, Perishable Quality Ctrl is responsible for leading the quality control of produce, repack operations, and banana ripening operations within an assigned region or across multiple distribution centers .The Mgr, Perishable Quality Ctrl leads a team of perishable inspectors and ripeners to deliver the highest level of quality produce to customers while also meeting customer specifications. The Mgr, Perishable Quality Ctrl works in tandem with EHS and Food Safety teams to ensure the organization is maintaining compliance and adhering to all applicable food safety laws and regulations. The Mgr, Perishable Quality Ctrl works cross-functionally with Operations, Procurement, Merchandising, and Commercial teams to communicate any issues and understand forthcoming customer demand. The Mgr, Perishable Quality Ctrl may also be responsible for leading the ripening of other types of produce, depending on the regional and/or customer nuances.

Job Description

Description

+ Lead ripening operations to meet color, maturity, and quality targets. Monitor and adjust temperature, humidity, and ethylene levels as needed. Inspect ripening fruit daily to ensure consistency and readiness for distribution.

+ Oversee the quality control team performing inspections of incoming, in-process, and outgoing produce. Ensure all product meets company, customer, and food safety specifications. Document inspection results and communicate quality issues to leadership.

+ Oversee daily repack activities to meet customer orders and packaging standards. Ensure proper labeling, packaging, and palletizing for accuracy and compliance. Monitor the repack process and implement enhancements to deliver efficiencies and minimize waste.

+ Partner with Operations, Procurement, Merchandising, and Commercial to align ripening operations with customer demand. Resolve and troubleshoot complex and serious operational or quality issues swiftly to mitigate risk to the business.

+ Lead, develop, and coache a team of perishable ripeners and inspectors.

Skills

+ Specialized Knowledge : Knowledge of banana ripening processes, including temperature, humidity, and ethylene management. Mastery of produce quality control standards, inspection techniques, and defect identification. Knowledge of repack operations, packaging specifications, and labeling compliance. Mastery of warehouse safety procedures and material handling practices.

+ Special Skills : Strong team management abilities. Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards. Effective communication and coordination across departments. Problem-solving and decision-making in fast-paced environments. Ability to train, mentor, and motivate employees. Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS) and basic computer applications.

+ Physical abilities: : Stand and walk for extended periods. Frequently bend, reach, and twist while handling product. Lift, carry, and move produce boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.

+ Other: : Ability to travel up XX% of Time.

Years Of Experience

+ 5-7 : 5+ years of experience with produce ripening, preferably bananas. Prior experience in leadership roles strongly preferred.
