Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
In a CoreLab setting, supports the educational responsibilities related to the teaching of histological techniques, processes and procedures for a variety of educational programs including Medical Technologist, Medical Lab Technician and Histology. Responsible for all of the functions of processing tissue samples for histological diagnosis by a pathologist including grossing, embedding, microtomy, special stains and processing Immunohistochemistry slides. Performs maintenance on laboratory equipment including but not limited to preventative, routine and troubleshooting.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Performs all duties of a histologist in the laboratory, including participation in weekend/holiday coverage.
+ Grosses small biopsies under the supervision of the Gross Room Supervisor and Pathologists’ assistant, performs histology duties, including embedding, cutting, special staining and immunohistochemical staining.
+ With direction from the clinical supervisors and advisement from leadership, creates and implements education processes within the histopathology laboratories for students enrolled in technician, technologist and histotechnician positions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Associate's degree in Histotechnology or Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technology and 2 years of experience in a histopathology laboratory required
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Knowledge of Histology techniques, LIS, and Microsoft required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
+ HT - Histotechnologist - ASCP certification upon hire required or
+ HTL - Histo Technologist certification upon hire required or
+ MLT-Medical Lab Technician (ASCP) NYS Licensure upon hire required or
+ MT Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technologist NYS Licensure upon hire required
