    Description

    The Texas A&M University College of Nursing seeks to fill a full-time tenured (Tenure Review Upon Hire) faculty position with an 11-month appointment and an anticipated start date of August 2026. Applicants will be considered for hte faculty titles of Associate Professor or Professor. The position will include an administrative appointment as Associate Dean for Research (ADR). We have engaged an executive search firm to conduct a national search for an energetic and innovative academic and executive leader to serve in this position. The Associate Dean for Research will be responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of a comprehensive research program for the college, ensuring mission integration across the College of Nursing, Texas A&M Health, and Texas A&M University. The Associate Dean for Research is also responsible for increasing the research productivity across tenured/tenure track and clinical faculty, pre- and post-doctoral scholars, and is administratively responsible for managing the resources of the Office of Nursing Research. The Associate Dean for Research must be eligible for a tenured appointment as associate professor, but preferably full professor and is expected to maintain an active externally funded research program as a principal investigator.

    The Texas A&M University Health Science Center is one of the fastest-growing academic health centers in the nation. The Health Science Center includes five academic colleges and numerous centers and institutes working together to improve health, transformative education, innovative research, and team-based health care delivery. The College of Nursing is one of five health professions colleges within the Health Science Center. Its mission is to educate today's professional nurses and tomorrow's leaders who will transform health and health systems through innovative nursing research and its translation into practice. The College of Nursing is in the process of hiring five new tenured/tenure-track faculty to advance the college’s research enterprise.

     

    Who we are seeking: We are looking for an Associate Dean for Research who subscribes to and supports our commitments to the mission, vision, and core values of the greater university, the Health Science Center, and the College of Nursing. The Associate Dean for Research holds a senior leadership role tasked with promoting and expanding the college’s research initiatives. This position involves guiding and nurturing emerging nurse scientists, fostering collaborative relationships with researchers across the university and beyond, and enhancing the college’s reputation for academic excellence and innovative research. The Associate Dean for Research is a vital member of the executive leadership team, leading the Office of Nursing Research and facilitating programs of research and scholarly productivity among faculty and students. The Associate Dean for Research may also serve as the leader for a future PhD program that is in development. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of research and academic experience to the position. The College of Nursing is building research strengths and capacity in health promotion and innovation, population health, forensics, and health care management.

     

    The primary position description is administrative, with 50% effort dedicated to the administrative role and service. The remaining 50% effort is dedicated to research with some teaching responsibilities.

     

    The College of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Traditional, Second degree, and RN to BSN), MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner, MSN-Nursing Education, MSN-Forensic Nursing, DNP, graduate certificate in Forensic Health Care and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner post-graduate certificate. Future plans include a PhD program and additional graduate and post-graduate certificate programs. We are a growing college within Texas A&M University with programs located in Bryan, Texas (primary location), Round Rock, Texas and a new campus location in McAllen is planned for Spring 2026.

     

    Administrative Appointment Duties, Responsibilities and Associated Service

     

    Texas A&M University and Health Science Center

     

    + Represents the College of Nursing at the University and Health Science Center level in the area of research and scholarship priorities, collaboration, and scholarly development of faculty and students.

    + Serves as the research leader for the College of Nursing with an annual plan for research growth and key performance indicators that are aligned with the University, Health Science Center and College of Nursing strategic plans.

     

    College of Nursing

     

    + Provides visionary and strategic direction for high-impact research and scholarly activities.

    + Facilitates and stimulates funding and implementation of research.

    + Accountable for developing, implementing, and evaluating the strategic research and scholarship goals of the College of Nursing.

    + Provides leadership in the research and scholarly missions.

    + Participates in the business of the college as specified in the College of Nursing bylaws.

    + Serves on the College of Nursing Executive Leadership Team (Deans Council).

    + Collaborates with the Dean and Deans Council on program planning, implementation and evaluation.

    + Develops faculty scholarship and mentorship plans and start-up packages.

     

    Programs of Research

     

    + Administration

    + Planning, Organizing, and Evaluating

    + Facilitates the establishment of immediate and long-range goals for research and scholarly activities with faculty in collaboration with respective supervisors.

    + Allocates responsibility to faculty and research staff for achieving and documenting research and scholarly outcomes.

    + Directing and Coordinating

    + Guides the faculty in research program development and implementation.

    + Leads the faculty in facilitating research to establish and achieve a dynamic research vision.

    + Mentors tenure-track faculty in developing sustainable programs of research.

    + Monitors and develops research productivity among faculty and students in the College of Nursing.

    + Oversees all research activities in the College of Nursing, including documentation and reporting of faculty and student research productivity.

    + Facilitates programs of research and scholarly productivity that lead to quantifiable improvements in College of Nursing outcomes.

    + Demonstrates a deep knowledge of the federal and state research funding agencies and engages these agencies in coordination with the University and System Offices of Government Relations.

    + Oversees records of all extramural and intramural grant and contract activity within the College of Nursing.

    + Supervises a Research Office Director.

    + Serves as the Deans Council Liaison to the College of Nursing Research Committee.

    + Budgeting and Staffing

    + Proposes and prioritizes budgetary needs related to research productivity in the College of Nursing.

    + Extramural Funding

    + Collaborates with faculty, staff, and interdisciplinary colleagues to develop grant, contract, and scholarship proposals relevant to the strategic plan goals.

    + Collaborates with the Dean and other University personnel in development-related fundraising initiatives that are aligned with the College strategic plan.

    + Public Relations

    + Collaborates with College and University personnel in publicizing and disseminating the research and scholarly accomplishments of faculty, professional staff, students, and alumni.

    + Collaborates with the Dean, the Texas A&M Alumni Association, and the Texas A&M Foundation in building and maintaining alumni relationships.

    + Communicates research related activities to the external public through appropriate channels.

    + Research/ Scholarship Leadership

    + Facilitates research and scholarly development of faculty and staff.

    + Promotes faculty development that enhance faculty promotion and tenure.

    + Collaborates with respective faculty supervisors to provide input on evaluation of research and scholarship outcomes as part of the annual faculty evaluation process.

    + Maintains a program of research and scholarship productivity and professional stature

     

    Reports to the Dean, College of Nursing, and assumes other responsibilities as directed by the Dean.

     

    Faculty Duties and Responsibilities

     

    Research, teaching/advising, and general service include contributing to related graduate program instruction, advising students in research, serving on assigned committees, and engaging in scholarly activities.

    Qualifications

    Required Education:

    Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or other research-focused doctoral degree (e.g., D.Sc., Ed.D. [if research-oriented], or equivalent) from an accredited institution. Degree must include substantial original research and completion of a dissertation or thesis.

    Preferred Education:

    Academic degrees granted from more than one degree-granting institution. Bachelor’s degree in nursing (unless prepared as a Master’s entry Registered Nurse). Master’s degree in nursing or related field. Master’s or Doctoral degree in nursing. Completion of post-doctoral education.

    Required Experience:

    Eight years of related professional experience. Must be eligible for a tenured appointment at the associate or full professor academic rank. Evidence of progressive scholarly achievements including data-based publications and a program of extramurally funded research, and national recognition as a leader in the field. Record of progressive leadership and development within a health-related academic and/or research environment. Demonstrated excellence in graduate-level teaching and mentorship. Prior experience establishing collaborative partnerships with other disciplines, health care agencies, or industry. Experience mentoring faculty in building productive programs of research and scholarship. Experience with research program development, implementation, and evaluation. Evidence of sustained scholarly productivity, including extramurally funded research, refereed publications and scholarly presentations in a focused area of scholarship. Service and leadership in nursing or health-related organizations and associations.

    Preferred Experience:

    Prior leadership experience in nursing, research, nursing education, or health care. Evidence of practice, teaching, or research recognition and excellence through certification, awards, or advanced professional education related to research. History of extramurally funded research program (R-level). Teaching experience in more than one nursing program at the graduate level. Service to the profession and community. Administrative experience in directing activities and evaluating job performance. Service as a grant reviewer.

    Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Demonstrates leadership competencies. Demonstrates ability to collaborate and lead transdisciplinary and interprofessional groups. Manifests qualities of integrity, professional character, sincerity, honesty, emotional stability, creativity, and discriminating judgment. Exhibits breadth of interest in people, the profession, and in cultural, social, and civic affairs. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

    Required Licenses and Certifications:

    None.

    Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

    Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
