The Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 1 seeks a creative and collaborative*Outreach and Education Librarian*. This position will play a vital role in advancing the initiatives and priorities of the National Library ofMedicine, theNetwork of the National Library of Medicine and Region 1. The_Network of the National Library of Medicine_(NNLM), Region 1 Regional Medical Library, located at the_University of Maryland, Baltimore_(UMB)_Health Sciences and Human Services Library_(HSHSL), provides funding support, health information outreach, and educational services for the following states in alignment with the_National Library of Medicine_(NLM) strategic plan: DC, DE, KY, MD, NC, NJ, PA, VA, and WV. This role supports NNLM network members by providing training and outreach, fostering relationships, and leading efforts that align with the NLM and NNLM goals and initiatives. The position works in a team environment that includes collaboration with the Region 1 Office, HSHSL, UMB, and the NNLM network of other Regional Medical Libraries, Offices and Centers. The successful candidate will develop and deliver instructional programming,contribute to online resources, provide guidance for funded projects, serve as a Region 1 representative on NNLM committees,and engage in strategic outreach to strengthen collaborations within the region. This position is funded through a 5-year cooperative agreement from the National Library of Medicine, until*April 30, 2026*. The successful candidate will join a team in Year 5 of the current agreement, with library leadership planning a competitive proposal for a future cooperative agreement. The HSHSL welcomes applications from all backgrounds including underrepresented minorities, persons with disabilities, sexual minority groups, and other candidates invested in creating and enriching an inclusive environment through their work and interactions. *Job Responsibilities:* * Provides instruction through workshops, webinars, symposia, and multi-modal formats on topics aligned with the NLM and NNLM priorities and initiatives. * Creates instructional resources, including research guides, tutorials, and online materials. * Actively promotes and presents information about the NLM and NNLM programs at events such as training sessions, meetings, exhibits, conferences, etc. * Participates in outreach and engagement efforts to build and sustain relationships with regional stakeholders. * Serves as a Region 1 representative to NNLM committees. * Provides guidance to recipients of regionally funded grants. * Collaborates with NNLM Regional Medical Libraries, Offices, and Centers to support national programs and initiatives. * Engages in professional and scholarly activities that advance the NNLM and the HSHSL’s strategic plan and mission. * Commits to continuous learning and professional development in areas/topics related to the position. * *Required Qualifications:* * ALA-Accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science * Ability to work both independently and collaboratively * Evidence of a strong service orientation and ability to represent the NLM and NNLM professionally * Ability to adjust to changing programs and tasks * Demonstrated desire to teach and engage withhealth professionals, information professionals, and the public * Excellent oral and written communication skills *Preferred Qualifications:* * Applicants without these qualifications who possess a commitment to learn and gain expertise in these areas are encouraged to apply. * Experience developing and conducting workshops and trainings, interacting confidently with audiences in virtual and in-person environments * Experience in academic, research, or health sciences libraries * Familiarity with health sciences librarianship * Project management/planning and team leadership skills * Evidence of professional and scholarly activities * Knowledge of the NLM and NNLM programs, resources, and services * Experience with learning management systems and video conferencing technologies * *Work Schedule: * UMB and HSHSL supports a flexible work environment and the development of a vibrant university campus community. This position requires onsite engagement and allows for a hybrid telework agreement. *Status:* This is a non-permanent status faculty librarian appointment through June 2026, that expects active participation in professional development and scholarly pursuits to build expertise and advance in appointment rank. Since 1983, the HSHSL has been the home of the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), Region 1 and is the current location of the NNLM Web Services Office. The HSHSL serves the schools of dentistry, graduate studies, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and social work, and is open to other campus students including those from the school of law. The library supports approximately 6,700 students in six nationally ranked professional schools and interdisciplinary graduate studies programs. The university offers 97 doctoral, master’s, baccalaureate and certificate programs.
