    **Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD)** has an immediate opening for a **Engineering Intern - Energy Production** located at **Gerald Gentleman Station** in **Sutherland** , Nebraska. Position closes October 26, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until filled.

     

    This position will report to an Engineering Manager at Gerald Gentleman Station.

    Position Summary

    Nebraska Public Power District is seeking an engineering student to work with and assist other experienced engineering staff in the Engineering Department at Gerald Gentleman Station. Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, or other relevant engineering disciplines are acceptable. The duration of the internship will be May 2026 to August 2026, based on school calendar dates.

     

    Gerald Gentleman Station is located near the south shore of Sutherland Reservoir, just east of State Highway 25 in west-central Nebraska. GGS consists of two generating units with a nominal capacity of 1,340 megawatts and is the largest generating facility in the state.

     

    The Engineering Department at Gerald Gentleman Station has responsibilities including daily support for operations and maintenance, trending system performance and initiating actions to restore/improve system performance and reliability, troubleshooting off-normal system conditions, failure and root cause analysis, evaluation of proposed configuration changes, recommendations to maintain asset value, capital project management and coordination of maintenance-related projects

     

    Education, Training and Experience

     

    The student must be pursuing an engineering degree from an accredited college/university. At a minimum, the student must be finishing their sophomore year of college.

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

     

    -Assist Plant Engineers with equipment troubleshooting

     

    -Obtain field data

     

    -Utilize drawings and prepare drawing revisions

     

    -Update plant records

     

    -Trend equipment performance data

     

    -Research equipment/component replacement and upgrade options

     

    -Assist Plant Engineers with project field implementation and contractor oversight

    Engineer Intern/Co-op - Sophomore - $24.89 per hour

     

    Engineer Intern/Co-op - Junior - $26.80 per hour

     

    Engineer Intern/Co-op - Senior - $28.72 per hour

     

    **Travel Required:** _Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview._

    Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary listed in posting, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.

     

    Retirement Savings

     

    NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
