    Campus Title Associate Director of Academic Advisement

    Position Summary

    The Associate Director of Advising for Academic Advisement strategically implements academic support services where they will have the greatest impact. This position utilizes an early alert system to oversee progress reports and case management of students with academic concerns. The Associate Director supports the day-to-day operation of the Office of Advising as they supervise the Office of Advising Administrative Assistant and student Academic Peer Mentors, and oversees the office’s appointment availability, appointment reasonings, and case management of early alerts.

     

    The Associate Director also serves as the lead for incoming student transfer student advising initiatives by supporting transfer student registration, articulation, and communication to ensure incoming transfer students are empowered with accurate and timely information to support in their transition to SUNY Geneseo.

     

    To centralize academic success services, this person collaborates closely with faculty and staff advisors across campus to ensure students are being consistently and holistically advised. The Associate Director follows ethical standards and principles articulated by professional organizations, such as NACADA , and upholds the mission, vision, and values of SUNY Geneseo.

    Required Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field

    • Commitment to promoting student equity and belonging, and experience with fostering growth-minded approaches to student success

    • Strong organizational abilities

    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully with students, faculty, and staff across the college

    + Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without VISA sponsorship.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with academic planning and advising tasks (e.g., using an early alert case

     

    management system, progress reports, degree audits, academic standards, etc.)

     

    • Supervisory experience of professional office staff and student workers

    • Experience with EAB Navigate

    • One to three years of higher education experience

    Percentage Of Time Academic Success - 50%

    Job Duty/ Responsibility

    + Establishes a data-driven advising approach and programming to strategically support students in high DEFWI courses in collaboration with academic deans and chairs

    + Liaise with the SUNY Geneseo Advising Network by collaborating with advisors in Pre-Health, Pre-Law, School of Business, School of Education, and the Access Opportunity Program ( AOP )

    + Coordinates Office of Advising-related events and appearances, including orientation sessions, workshops, tabling events, and cross-campus informational presentations

    + Supports the Director of Advising in the promotion, usage, and functionality of EAB Navigate across faculty and staff

    + Responsible for case management of early alerts submitted by faculty and staff to ensure proactive support and connection to campus resources

    + Oversees Office of Advising appointment availability, appointment reasons, and drop-in advising tracking

    + Oversees Office of Advising social media accounts to promote deadlines, policies, and reminders to the student body

    + Meets with students to provide academic advising, including guidance on course selection, academic policies, and degree requirements

    + Required to teach one to two sections of student success courses offered through the Office of Advising

     

    Percentage Of Time Incoming Student Support - 20%

    + Leads new student advising initiatives and registration

    + Serves as the lead for incoming student transfer student advising initiatives by supporting transfer student registration, articulation, communication, and transition to SUNY Geneseo.

    + Develops a strategic communication and outreach plan to ensure proactive outreach and connection with the Office of Advising.

    + Collaborates with staff in the Division of Student and Campus Life on the design and delivery of first-year academic success programming

     

    Percentage Of Time Professional Development Delivery - 10%

    Job Duty/ Responsibility

    + Coordinates training for professional staff in the Division of Student & Campus Life whose interactions with students as coaches, guides, and directors require them to provide accurate, academic advising information

    + Collaborates with other offices that provide professional development to faculty and staff e.g., the Teaching and Learning Center, the CIT instructional design team, and the Office of Diversity and Equity) to ensure alignment of efforts

     

    Percentage Of Time Supervision - 20%
