    Job Description:

    POSITION PURPOSE

    This position provides temporary, project-based assistance in Maintenance Engineering by assisting with equipment failure analysis and identification of root cause, troubleshooting of equipment problems, obtaining data for equipment condition monitoring, managing equipment information, and completing minor projects for equipment improvements. Plant equipment includes rotating machinery such as pumps, turbines, compressors, motors, and material handling equipment. Stationary equipment includes piping, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, tanks, valves, structural steel and supports. The incumbent will gain exposure to Cooperative operations and practices while supporting teams with hands-on tasks and assignments appropriate to their field of study.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    + Uses predictive maintenance technologies such as acoustic ultrasound, infrared cameras, vibration data collection equipment and turbine/compressor performance monitoring software to conduct equipment condition monitoring and complete leak surveys.

    + Assist Engineers with project work - updating plant drawings, revising equipment Bill of Materials, updating equipment information in Asset Suite and APM.

    + Assist Engineers with outage work - turbine/compressor overhauls, gearbox and valve inspections, vessel piping repairs.

    + Follow safety, security, and procedural guidelines.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    + Be at least 18 years of age.

    + Be enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Mechanical Engineering (EAC/ABET accredited) program with Sophomore year completed, or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).

    + Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.

    + Hold a valid driver’s license.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Previous internship or relevant work experience.

    + Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.

    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

    This position requires constant standing, walking, sitting, bending, climbing, reaching above and below shoulder level, hand coordination; occasional lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds, frequent hand grip of up to 35 pounds, pinch grip, and low level and elevated activity. Over 50% of the incumbent’s shift is spent indoors. Occasionally requires working at heights from 10 to 250 feet and in high climbing areas on grating, ladders, scaffolding, man baskets and other areas which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. Continuously exposed to noise; frequently exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, chemicals, and extreme heat and cold; and occasionally exposed to vibration, poor ventilation and confined areas such as inside vessels, heaters, tanks, and trenches. Incumbents are required to wear dust masks, respirators and full-face Scott Air Paks when necessary. Will be required to work rotating shifts as needed. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Requires finger dexterity, ability to perform close work, binocular vision, color vision, hearing, and the ability to speak.
