GENERAL FUNCTIONS
The Applications Developer will perform applications development tasks with guidance from the development team to analyze, design, construct, test, document, and support software associated with campus administrative information systems. In addition to supporting existing customized software applications, the position will be responsible for supporting configuration and integration with third party applications.
A successful candidate will be able to work on a highly collaborative technical team to solve problems and provide excellent support to the college community with the guidance of the Applications and Integrations team.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Individual Responsibilities
+ Perform development tasks supporting the Banner student information system and other campus management information systems
+ Consult with customers on application requirements, business process improvements, and use of applications
+ Support the testing and post upgrade processes for upgrades and patches with ITEC and SICAS.
+ Assist with the design, development, testing, documentation, and support of database applications that provide business workflows, transactional maintenance, and data integration with third party applications
+ Assist the development of custom reporting and analytics
+ Configure, test, and support third party product modules
+ Interface with third party product support resources to resolve problems such as ITEC, SICAS and Ellucian Action Line when appropriate.
+ Complete project management tasks as assigned by the Director of Applications and Integrations in collaboration with the applications team.
B. General Requirements and Teams
+ Perform incidental duties associated with day-to-day functions of the offices of Information Technology Services (ITS), most of which entail front-line interaction with campus computer users, both in person and remotely. These tasks will occasionally include [but are not limited to] resolving computing problems for walk-in users, answering the telephone, taking messages, covering staff absences, and completing purchase requisitions.
+ Contribute to the publication of technical and informational newsletters, electronic communications, bulletins, and ITS web pages where appropriate.
+ Contribute to instruction of training courses for campus computing users and staff where appropriate. Attend training seminars and business meetings to extend specialized skills for staff and project management as approved by the CIO.
+ Explore emerging technologies in computing and applications software through readings in professional journals and product documentation.
+ All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION
Associate's degree is required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Degrees in Computing or Information Technology preferred.
EXPERIENCE
+ A minimum of 1 year analysis and programming experience
+ Minimum of 1 year experience producing functional deliverables (automations, tool development, experience cards, etc.) in Banner or another ERP/SIS environment.
+ Experience working as an IT specialist in the SUNY system is desired but not required.
+ Documented experience in SQL programming with modern relational databases
+ Experience with analytical reporting tools such as PowerBI
+ Documented experience with Linux/Unix commands and operating system
+ Experience with student information systems such as Banner and Brightspace
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Demonstrated analysis and problem-solving skills
+ Ability to manage and complete work independently and in teams
+ Proficiency with system integration and APIs
+ Proficiency in object-oriented programming language(s) such as Java, Groovy, PHP
+ Provide outstanding customer service and teamwork
+ Excellent communication skills
+ Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working/teaching environment
+ Availability to work evenings and weekends on an occasional basis to support critical issues and project upgrades
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Experience developing web-based applications HTML/CSS/Javascript web-based user interfaces
+ Proficiency with reporting writing tools such as Evisions Argos and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services
+ Ability to collaborate with multiple teams; ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of campus and department mission
+ Demonstrated ability to function at a high-level in a fast-paced environment
+ Demonstrated customer service orientation; demonstrated ability to be approachable, customer focused, adaptable, and patient.
Additional Information:
RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the Director of Applications and Integrations and works with other ITS staff in performing maintenance operations.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a year-round appointment. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract. Evening and weekend hours may be required. Compensation is set at $70,384 - $75,799 based on qualifications and experience. This position may include the opportunity to work partially or fully remote to meet the business needs of the college.
