    We are proud and excited to offer summer internships for 2026 across several of our different office locations and are currently seeking an **Energy Engineer Intern** to join our team in Madison, WI.

    Our B.L.U.E. (Build, Learn, Understand, Enrich) Summer Internship Program is purposefully designed to inspire your imagination and help you guide your career with purpose. You’ll be an integral part of McKinstry with hands-on experience, mentorship and a healthy dose of fun. Our program delivers depth and real experience so that you can truly evaluate potential career paths within the work we do.

    What we look for in our Energy Interns:

    + Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel (priority), PowerPoint, and Outlook required; working knowledge of SharePoint preferred.

    + Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specs, contracts, proposals, estimates, and other regularly encountered items.

    + Data analysis and energy/thermodynamics calculation experience preferred.

    + Building system knowledge/experience and interest preferred.

    + College Junior standing or higher is required.

    + Working toward a Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering degree, resource/energy management, or a related engineering field is required.

    + Availability in Summer 2025 (May/June start until August/September depending on school); part-time availability after Summer preferred

    + Must be 18 years of age or older

    What are our Energy Interns responsible for:

    _Project Support_

    + Demonstrates an understanding of basic engineering concepts related to energy efficiency, building systems, heat transfer, fluid flow, and thermodynamics or sustainability.

    + Supports sustainability consulting activities. Includes energy and water efficiency calculations and carbon calculation standards.

    + Supports client sustainability and energy efficiency projects.

    + Site visits to set up data logger deployment.

    + Data analysis, including data entry and review.

    + Archiving and filing of completed projects.

    _Energy and Sustainability Research_

    + Research new HVAC and/or lighting technology options.

    + Coordinate with McKinstry Capital for federal grants.

    + Research rebate and rebate trends.

    + Research savings calculations.

    + Utilizes both manual and packaged calculations software
