    Estimating Internship

     

    Kraus-Anderson Construction Company’s Estimating Internship program offers ambitious college students the opportunity to put their knowledge and skills to work in the real world of commercial construction. The Estimating Internship provides students interested in pursuing a career track in Preconstruction/Estimating an opportunity to learn the role.

     

    Consideration for full-time employment is contingent on the completion of the program, the quality of work produced, and the amount of interest displayed by the intern.

     

    The Estimating mentor will provide direction, support and encourage Interns to develop an understanding of the responsibilities associated with the internship assignment. Estimating Interns will be exposed to the following duties as well as accomplish the following goals:

     

    Summary: Exposure and experience to the process in which KA delivers construction projects.

    Universal Goals and Duties:

    + Develop an understanding of the responsibilities of a Preconstruction Manager or Estimator

    + Gain exposure to estimating and preconstruction methods and terminology

    Estimating

    + Participate in the team approach to estimating, bidding, and construction of a project

    + Interact and understand the relationships between various parties of a construction contract including owners, architects, project managers, subcontractors and suppliers

    + Achieve proficiency in understanding and interpreting plans, specifications, contracts, schedules, and other construction documents and schedules

    + Demonstrate the ability to assemble and prepare detailed technical documents common to the construction industry

    + Develop and issue Subcontractor Solicitations/ Invitations to Bid

    + Develop an understanding of public bidding requirements vs private/negotiated subcontracting

    + Conduct detailed quantity takeoff across both self-performed and subcontracted scopes of work

    + Participate in and develop an understanding of subcontractor proposal receipt, review/ “Bid Leveling”

    + Develop an understanding of how both detailed and conceptual cost estimates are structured and assembled.

    Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

    + Minimum of 1 year education from an accredited college, or university

    + Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

    + Proficiency in standard business computer programs and other job-relevant software

    + Possess excellent problem solving and multi-tasking skills

    + Ability to work efficiently and use critical thinking skills
