    Operations Guide

     

    The Operations Guide is responsible for technical leadership and guidance of complex processes and operations that enable new Breeding innovations that fuel Bayer’s growth pipeline. You’ll be part of a dynamic team that ensures the successful execution of seed production activities, and your contributions will directly impact the advancement of Bayer’s cutting-edge technologies and sustainable farming solutions. This position blends hands-on fieldwork with precision lab-based tasks, supporting the development and delivery of high-quality seed products that meet the demands of modern agriculture. The incumbent will continuously assess and implement advanced processes for field, lab and nursery operations, focus on end-to-end pipeline and product delivery, foster a team culture dedicated to HSE, regulatory compliance and operational excellence performance.

    YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The primary responsibilities of this role, Operations Guide are to:

    + Provides technical leadership and guidance to teams and staff, including training on intricate processes related to Field & Lab operations and delivery of seeds for the development of products for Crop Science and Breeding innovations;

    + Continuously assesses and enhances all field and lab practices and methods to deliver new genetics and traits;

    + Understands the impact work performed at the site relative to Breeding outcomes;

    + Leads in establishing a site culture dedicated to the highest standards of environmental safety, health, regulatory compliance, and quality performance. Responsible for ensuring adherence to safety, compliance, and regulatory policies, including employee documentation and training standards, while developing and updating programs to align with evolving regulations;

    + Collaborates with other functions and team members as a project leader, supporting transformative change in field, lab and nursery operations; including integration of automation, technological innovation, system advancements, and the deployment of new tools;

    + Co-accountable for budget maintenance and forecasting, ensuring adherence to overall corporate and company financial targets, and the oversight of multi-million-dollar assets and capital projects;

    + Participates in the hiring, supervision, and onboarding of full-time support staff, conducting workforce planning to identify contingent labor based on operational needs;

    + Participates in projects with Product / Technical Unit teams contributing to the strategy and development of products in the associated pipeline;

    + Identifies, assesses, negotiates, and manages ongoing contractual relationships with landowners, equipment, or services essential for maintaining an ongoing R&D program;

    + Manage inventory and procurement of supplies, equipment, and materials required for field operations and research activities;

    + Manages and sets daily priorities across a range of functional teams and prioritizes for impact to technical outcomes;

    + Position entails driving a company vehicle (pooled or assigned to the individual). This may include being required to drive greater than 5,000 business miles annually in a personal, pooled, or rented vehicle **OR** being expected to frequently drive a pooled car as part of your job duties – regardless of mileage;

    WHO YOU ARE

    Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s Degree;

    + Experience in agronomy, seed production, field testing, or related areas;

    + Broad knowledge of region-specific crop production and farming practices;

    + Familiar with basic operation and general maintenance of agricultural equipment;

    + Valid Driver’s License; Driving record (MVR) will be reviewed and must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers;

    + Ability to lift up to 40lbs.;

    + Demonstrated success in fostering site culture dedicated to environmental SSHE, regulatory compliance, and quality performance;

    + Demonstrated effectiveness in driving technical strategy and operations;

    + Proven experience with a strong ability to collaborate with other functions and team members as a project leader on regional projects, driving transformative change in field trial research through the integration of automation, technological innovation, system advancements, and the deployment of new tools;

    + High business acumen of the North American Breeding and R&D pipeline;

    + Strong project management skills;

    + Excels in an agile, fast-paced work environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + BS preferably in Agriculture, Agronomy, Life Science, Engineering, or related discipline or MS in Agronomy or related field;

    + +5 years’ experience in agronomy, seed production, field testing, or related areas;

    + DOT medical card or the ability to obtain one through successfully completing and passing a DOT physical. In addition, candidate must be able to meet all applicable DOT/FMCSA criteria. Drivers with previous DOT driving experience may be required to undergo FMCSA safety checks and applicable review. (DOT 10-26k);

    + Experience in Breeding and North America Market Segments.

     

    Domestic Relocation may be provided for this role.
