Job Summary: The Communications Specialist supports the Marketing & Communications team in delivering effective internal and external messaging. This role contributes to internal communications, media relations, and social media efforts to inform, engage, and inspire key audiences including employees, providers, patients, and the broader community. The specialist assists in creating content across multiple channels and supports strategic initiatives.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.
Work Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in communications, content creation, or other related experience. Experience within healthcare or nonprofit communications, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proven success in assisting with developing and implementing strategic communications plans. Strong understanding of healthcare communications trends, regulations, and best practices. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences. Proficiency in presentation skills. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Drafts, edits, and distributes internal communications such as e-newsletters, memos, announcements, talking points, and video scripts. Maintains and updates content on the organization’s intranet and other internal platforms. Assists in planning and executing communication campaigns that support employee, provider, and patient engagement. Monitors and reports on communication effectiveness using analytics tools and employee feedback. Collaborates with departments across the organization to gather and develop content for internal and external use, ensuring message consistency. Supports special projects and initiatives that enhance communication and organizational culture, including events and campaigns. Assists in developing and scheduling social media content across platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and others. Contributes to the creation of media materials such as press releases, media kits, and proactive story pitches. Supports the execution of crisis communication plans as needed. Ensures all communications align with brand standards, tone, and organizational values.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.
Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
