What you'll do...
As Director of Technology for our Tax Platforms, you will take on a pivotal leadership role overseeing a dynamic organization of more than 100 engineers. You will be charged with building and scaling best-in-class client experiences powered by cloud-native platforms that are essential to our enterprise tax solutions. Leveraging your expertise in DevOps methodologies, you will drive automation, operational excellence, and continuous delivery across our entire tax ecosystem. This role blends strategic vision with hands-on execution, empowering you to champion engineering best practices while fostering a culture of innovation, speed, and quality. We’re at a unique moment in H&R Block’s journey just having launched our new strategy, Block Next, and this position is critical to it’s success.
Day to day you’ll…
+ Set and execute the technical strategy for tax product platforms and the digital channels connecting clients and Tax Pros.
+ Lead DevOps engineering teams to deliver scalable, enterprise-grade solutions that elevate the client experience and meet high-availability standards.
+ Demonstrated success in driving outcomes through cross-functional squad collaboration, integrating Product, Design, and Engineering to deliver customer-centric solutions with speed, agility, and quality
+ Leverage agile best practices and DevOps metrics to continuously improve team performance and product impact
+ Ensure operational excellence during critical tax season peaks, proactively identifying and addressing risks and blockers.
+ Mentor and coach engineers on design, coding, and DevOps best practices, nurturing technical talent and innovation throughout the organization.
+ Champion the adoption of AI, automation, and emerging technologies to enhance productivity, reliability, and speed across our platforms.
What you'll bring to the team...
+ Passion for building world-class, client-centric experiences through technology.
+ Proven ability to lead large engineering organizations in complex, enterprise-scale environments.
+ Deep technical expertise in cloud-native architecture (preferably Azure), DevOps, CI/CD, and scalable solution design.
+ Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills across a broad range of audiences.
+ Demonstrated ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on, practical execution.
+ Experience with regulated environments or tax technology is highly valued.
+ 10+ years of technology leadership and consulting experience in enterprise or regulated environments.
+ Engineering mindset focused on building leading large organizations to deliver world-class technical solutions
+ Program management experience leading large, mission-critical teams and business change initiatives.
+ Demonstrated track record of establishing priorities, meeting deadlines, and managing program budgets.
+ Strong background in strategic assessment, cost/benefit analysis, and business case development.
+ Superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including presentation and facilitation for diverse audiences.
+ Outstanding supervisory and matrix management abilities to delegate and oversee complex tasks.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
