    Reports To : Assistant Superintendent of Special Education/ Assistant Director of Transition

    Position overview:

    The Office of Special Education seeks an exceptional candidate for the position of College Readiness Coordinator. The College Readiness Coordinator plays a vital role in the success of students, ensuring their participation in the MAICEI Program at The Massachusetts College of Art. The Coordinator will help students understand themselves as learners and also help students become self advocates. The main goal of the Coordinator will be to support enrolled students in making a successful transition to college life.

     

    The Coordinator works on-campus with the program participants and will collaborate with the Assistant Director of Transition and the MAICEI Program Coordinator. This position will maintain relationships with others on campus to expand and develop a community that is conducive to student success and encourages positive behaviors.

    Responsibilities:

    Student Support

     

    + Support individual students with disabilities, ages 18-22, in inclusive postsecondary educational settings;

    + Attend new student campus tours, orientation, Ed Coach meetings, student activities, and professional development trainings;

    + When necessary the Ed Coach will assist students in the typical role of a college student including appropriate classroom behavior, study skills, test-taking skills, note-taking, time management, organizational skills, and tutoring;

    + Assist students in accessing campus resources including the Computer Lab, Adaptive Lab, Library, Career Services, and Tinsley Athletic Center;

    + Help students plan and practice personal safety techniques, self-advocacy and assertiveness skills; allowing students to be as independent as possible in the college environment;

    + Assist students in travel training;

    + Strategize with students and the Coordinator on how to communicate with faculty regarding individual learning needs.

     

    Data collection and Analysis

     

    + Collect data on IEP goals applicable to the MAICEI setting and share data with the students’ school based liaison for progress reporting purposes;

    + Along with MAICEI Program Coordinator, review and encourage use of educational accommodations and make appropriate curriculum adaptations to fulfill course requirements;

    + Complete Student-Ed Coach Agreement.

    Family and Student Engagement:

    + Participate in MAICEI Program’s End-of-Year Celebration;

    + Communicate in a positive manner and relate to students, college faculty/staff, district staff, and families.

    Qualifications - Required:

    + Associates/Bachelors degree

    + Experience working with inner city youth in urban setting

    + Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment .

    Qualifications - Preferred:

    + Experience working with students who have unique learning needs;

    + Experience with Visual and Fine Arts preferred;

    + BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages:Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali
