    ABOUT US

New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region, serving over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students annually. The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life.

    THE ROLE

The Senior Director is the CIT Department’s operational and research anchor, directly managing five CIT Directors (Arts, Sports & Wellness, Literacy, STEM and Food Science, Makers Clubs) and overseeing Education Specialists to deliver high-quality curriculum, instruction, professional learning, and events across sites. This people-first, equity-driven leader turns research and real-world evidence into practical improvements, standardizes observation and coaching, and keeps operations steady, projects on time, reporting and timekeeping accurate, and systems simple enough to scale. They also steward internal and grant budgets, aligning resources to impact and meeting the requirements of funders. Above all, they cultivate an inclusive, high-expectation culture where adults and students thrive.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Strategic Partnering: Serve as thought partner to the CEIO; shape SOPs and long-range plans; represent CIT with funders and external stakeholders as needed.

+ Team Leadership: Manage and develop the five CIT Directors; set priorities, timelines, and deliverables; drive cross-team handoffs and calendar discipline.

+ Education Specialists: Supervise coaching/implementation supports; deploy a standardized Instructional Observation Protocol; ensure consistent feedback cycles and just-in-time training.

+ Curriculum & PD: Ensure standards alignment, quality control, and versioning; coordinate department-wide PD plans and micro-credentials; balance fidelity with site-level adaptation.

+ Research & Evaluation: Design studies; build tools (surveys, rubrics, focus groups); analyze qualitative/quantitative data; translate findings into actionable improvements and dashboards.

+ Operations & Compliance: Enforce accurate timekeeping; maintain clean documentation and reporting; uphold audit-ready processes.

+ Budgets & Grants: Co-own operating budgets and reforecasts; align staffing and time allocations to funding; manage procurement; deliver on-time funder and board reports.

    IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

We’re looking for a people-first senior leader who has successfully guided multi-disciplinary instructional teams, including Director-level leaders in K–12 and expanded-learning settings. You use research and evaluation to make innovative, practical improvements in teaching, coaching, and program design. You’ve built coherent curriculum systems, put simple observation and coaching routines in place, and scaled professional learning that sticks across many sites.

Operationally, you keep complex projects on time with organized, compliant documentation, and you confidently steward budgets across public and private funding streams in partnership with Finance. Above all, you lead with equity and culturally responsive practice, building an inclusive, high-expectation culture where staff and students thrive.

You hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution and bring or are eager to deepen working knowledge of instructional design approaches (e.g., Understanding by Design, Backward Design, DACUM, ADDIE). You’re also familiar with New York State K–12 Learning Standards and excited to create grade-specific content aligned to those standards.
