    Position OverviewUnited Health Services (UHS) is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Facility Coding Supervisor to lead a team of coding professionals supporting accurate and timely medical documentation. In this key leadership role, you will oversee daily operations, ensure compliance with coding standards, support staff development, and help drive quality outcomes across our facility coding units.

    $30.58 - $45.86 per hour, depending on experience

    Job Responsibilities:

    + Supervise and oversee daily operations of assigned coding units (e.g., Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery, Trauma, CPEP, OPIB), ensuring timely and accurate code assignment.

    + Prioritize and coordinate workloads to meet established coding turnaround and billing deadlines, balancing staff capacity and daily volume fluctuations.

    + Provide onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training to new and existing coding staff; ensure continual professional development aligned with current coding standards.

    + Establish and monitor coder productivity and quality benchmarks; conduct monthly reviews and provide regular, constructive feedback on individual and team performance.

    + Perform quality assurance audits for coding accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ICD-10-CM, APC, and APG standards; implement corrective actions when needed.

    + Develop, maintain, and update department-specific coding guidelines, policy manuals, and standard operating procedures; submit documentation for leadership review and approval.

    + Manage staff scheduling including weekly shifts, holidays, PTO, and vacation coverage; approve timecards and monitor completion of mandatory training and health assessments.

    + Facilitate quarterly performance evaluations, maintain regular team communications, and lead monthly staff meetings to ensure alignment and transparency.

    + Monitor and resolve delayed or held records by reviewing system reports such as 3M over-5-day unbilled, SMART hold, and C-hold lists; allocate resources accordingly.

    + Serve as a subject matter expert for coding-related inquiries from providers, physicians, and departments; assist with complex code interpretation or insufficient documentation cases.

    + Coordinate and support internal and external coding audits; lead compliance efforts by ensuring audit readiness and follow-through on findings or recommendations.

    + Participate in hands-on coding as needed to maintain clinical proficiency and connection with frontline staff; stay current with continuing education to maintain RHIT credentials.

    Position Qualifications:

    Minimum Required:

    + Associate’s Degree

    + Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working knowledge of DRG’s, APC’s, hospital and professional coding, information systems, databases to include three years coding experience.

    Preferred:

    + Associates Degree in HIT. HIT or RHIT, CPC, CCS with valid current credentials

    + Bachelor’s Degree in HIT.

    + Five (5) years of supervisory experience. Experience with regulatory agencies and third party payers.

    + Experience with electronic medical record.

    + RHIA certification
