Description
We're seeking a **Coordinator, Transfusion Safety** who will function as a liaison between the blood bank and clinical staff, utilizing tools such as audits, quality improvement activities, educational presentations, and general vigilance to enhance transfusion safety throughout EHC. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following job duties:
+ Clinical Collaboration & Support
+ 1. Collaborate with all levels of clinical and medical personnel to optimize blood transfusion safety and efficacy.
+ 2. Serve as a resource to nurses, clinicians, and laboratory staff for issues related to blood management, administration, and transfusion safety.
+ 3. Provide support to hospital teams in aligning with TJC, CMS, FDA, DPH, AABB, CAP, and other regulatory agency standards.
+ 4. Participate in the development and revision of policies related to blood administration, consent, and utilization guidelines.
+ Education & Training
+ 1. Provide educational presentations to physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses.
+ 2. Train providers on key transfusion practices, including ordering, patient identification, sample handling, blood administration, and patient monitoring.
+ 3. Prepare and deliver educational materials to enhance staff competency in transfusion safety and best practices.
+ Quality Improvement & Safety
+ 1. Improve transfusion safety through process surveillance, patient blood management coordination, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
+ 2. Investigate transfusion-related safety events and reactions; identify and implement process improvements.
+ 3. Implement evidence-based, patient-centered strategies to minimize adverse transfusion events. 4. Monitor and assess patient care delivery efficiency and utilization related to blood management.
+ Program Oversight & Metrics
+ 1. Coordinate and track all aspects of the hospital's Patient Blood Management (PBM) Programs.
+ 2. Establish processes to track, audit, and analyze key metrics (e.g., blood product turnaround time), and provide recommendations for improvement.
+ 3. Participate in performance improvement activities that support organizational goals.
+ Reporting & Communication
+ 1. Provide regular updates and reports to key hospital committees, including the Joint Transfusion Committee, Blood Stewardship Committee, Medical Staff meetings, and Nursing Administrative Council.
+ 2. Communicate findings, trends, and action plans to relevant stakeholders to drive engagement and accountability.
+ Other Responsibilities
+ 1. Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
+ Travel: Ability to travel between Operating Units
+ Work Type: Hybrid employee; splits time between working remotely and working in the office.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in nursing, or Combination of education andExperience of 5 years or more may be considered in lieu of a RN license for highly qualified candidates.
+ 5+ experience in a hospital setting
+ Experience in transfusion services and blood banking
+ Nursing: an unencumbered nursing license must have a valid, active license approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
+ BLS certification Skills:
+ Experience with blood component administration is essential.
+ Clinical experience, blood bank knowledge, management training, project coordination experience, quality assessment training, and abilities in education are all preferred qualifications.
+ Minimum Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree preferred
